Please do more research on this board about all of the surgeries.  You will be able to read about real life stories and not just how the WLSs are supposed to work.

The lap band is not as benign as it might seem on the surface.  There are a lot of internal problems that can result by have a dense ring placed around your tender stomach.  The port can also cause pain and problems.

Thanks for the advice.. Trust me, I have been researching for over a year.. I would not do anything to my body that I am not thoroughly familiar with and have not considered the possible ramifications of.... So, I am informed....

Hello and Welcome!

I wish you great success on your journey. I researched for a long time too -- most of that time was spent telling myself it was actually okay for me to have weight loss surgery. I kept thinking I didn't deserve the help of surgery.

Take Care,

Trixie

Hi Newbe from Chicago! I am also from Chicago.  I am 31 and live in Hanover Park.  I am 4 weeks post op from Lap Band.  I am so happy I made this decision.  I started my pre op diet on May 1 at 261lbs.  I am now down 31 lbs and already feel so much better.  My clothes are starting to be big and everyone keeps telling me I look great.  I am following all of the instructions and eating tips from the Dr. office and really do not have any restrictions.  After the surgery I felt very gassy and pain from the laproscopic gases, but walking and drinking water made me feel 100% better.  Right now I walk at least 30 minutes a day and lift 5lbs weights with my arms every morning.  I am going to increase my excersice slowly working into a jog and eventully a run.  I found this site to be very helpful, I just joined about 2 weeks ago, so I am still learning about it.  Good luck to you, and I am here if you need any local help!
