Hello All!!

I am new to OH and am seriously considering having WLS to so i can take my life back and get back to being my happy and outgoing self again. I am just wondering if bandsters have hairloss for any reason and if so how bad is it??

Congrats on taking your life back! Typically Lap banders don't suffer severe hair loss like bypass patients do, but some do report some hair loss after surgery but this can be minimized by taking Biotin and eating at least 80-100 grams of proteins daily during weight loss. Good luck

Thanks guys I cut my hair off about a year and a half ago because short hair makes me feel sexy, lol so i was really afraid of loosing any of the hair that i have left. I also loose hair very easily when i am under stress so i just did not want to do anything that may make it worse.

I lost some hair but not enough for it to make a difference. My hair was a lot fuller pre-surgery but understand your concerns with hair loss and RNY .. I might of had less hair loss if I took any type of vitiamns or supplements but I dont.

I am struggling with hair loss.  I have kicked up my protien and take lots of supplements and vitiamins but it is still thinning alot.  the 68# I have released is worth it.  The nurse tells me it is because I have lost so much and not to worry that it will fill in again during maintenance.  We'll see.

Hair loss is a farily common side effect of exposure to anesthesia.

I had a small amount of hair loss at about 4 months post-op --- normal response to anesthesia.

My hair is now stronger, thicker and fuller than it has ever been.

I did not do anything about it-- some people use Biotin shampoo, or increase their protein --- I just rode it out for a few weeks and let it come back in normally.

I had thin hair to begin with, but after about 4 months, I started losing it in droves.  I actually resorted to having hair graft surgery this past January and I'm still waiting for the majority of the hair to grow in (it's normal for it to take 9 months). I asked my doctor about it--I took Biotin daily as well as multi itamins and plenty of protein.  He said some people are just predispositioned to have this problem...probaably not a real result of the WLS.

I lost alot of hair at about 4 months out, but I did what the Ladies above said to do and I am fine now. Most of the hair has grown back. If you have any questions ask the nutritionist or your doctor. Good luck!

I have lost more than half the volume of my hair, but I had enough for 3 people to begin with.  Some of it has come back, but some of it never will because I have other health issues going on.

Protein, biotin may help.  And I will post an article next that will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about hair and weight loss.  LOL
