Confusion about what to eat!
I am so confused right now. I called my nutritionist and she told me to move on to soft foods and work my way to normal food as tolerated. I am a little over 2 weeks out from LapBand surgery. She also told me to get 60-80g of protein per day and not to worry about my calorie intake. I am getting about 70-80g of protein but only about 500-800 calories. I think my body needs more calories to lose weight. I am weak and often light headed. I do better with a meal plan. With me being over a little over two weeks...how many calories would you think I should be getting?
Thanks!

That is about the amount I had in calories to before I moved to solid foods. When I moved to solid foods I eat between 1000 to 1400 per day now and I'm good to go .
also and I know this sounds weird but if I let my carbs get to low for the day I will get light headed and weak also. If I go below 50 a day I end up this way especially since I exercise now . I have to keep my carbs between 60-80 per day for me to feel good. I have almost fainted and passed out from bowling from letting this happen.
Have you tried eating some snacks between meals ? My doc likes us to eat snacks and when I was on soft foods I ate snacks between meals . we are allowed up to one cup for snacks . This is my doc though.
So I usually eat three meals and two snacks sometimes its only one snack depends on my mood and how I feel after exercise if I eat again .

I am eating 3x per day. I think I may add a morning and afternoon snack to see if that helps. It's also strange because people I see on the internet are still on mushies or puree food the 3rd and 4th week after surgery. The nutritionist told me I could move to solid when I feel up to it. It's crazy how different Dr's offices can be.
Have you ever heard going to solid, this fast?

Thanks for the replies. I am going to keep reading and get me a good plan to stick with, when I get to normal again. I go to the Dr. on the 22nd and according to my info. he will give me a fill if needed. I don't know if I will want one or not though! We shall see. :)
Thanks!

Amanda,
Most lap banders reserve the FIRST 6 WEEKS FOR HEALING, you should be concentrating on healing and not necessarily on weight loss at this point. This is why SO many people get into trouble by trying to progress too quickly or get fills to quickly. Your body needs to heal, you WILL FEEL weak at this point, so your main focus right now is to stay hydrated, if you are dehydrated you will feel weak also.
If it were me I would make sure I am getting enough fluids in, IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW LITTLE CALORIES you are getting in right now, you WILL SURVIVE, but you will feel better if you sipped on room temp bottle water, keep that with you at all times, and your energy levels will boost, also make sure you tare taking your vitamins.
I mixed Unjury protein powder mix to my foods early post op and stayed with mushy type foods at 2-6 weeks like re-fried mushy beans/cheese with salsa, pureed tuna and egg salad those were my staples until I healed and this way I did not feel weak and I lost weight and got all my proteins in as well. Good luck.

Thanks Nana! That makes sense. I do have trouble with my water intake. I'm trying though. Being dehydrated is the last thing that I need/want. I am going to set myself a goal of getting 80grams of protein and 64 oz of water per day.
I had tuna salad for lunch and I'm having pureed canned chicken with salsa/cheese tonight for supper. Until then CHEERS! (holds bottle of water up) :)
