pain medications

I was prescribed liquid Vicodin.  It tasted nasty but worked beautifully!  I had an open surgery though (incision was sternum to belly button), not laparascopic, so I needed to take it much longer than most people.  My friend's lap procedure warranted 4 days of pain meds while I needed it for close to 2 weeks.

Good luck Friday MomoJule!

I was only prescribed Darvocet (which is now off the market) for post-op pain relief and it wasn't strong enough for me.  I asked the nurse before surgery if it would be enough, I didn't think it would be.. and she assured me it would.  She was wrong.

I will never again have abdominal surgery without a postop narcotic type drug for pain relief afterwards.  Just my 2cents.

I got percecet- told to disolve it in water. Only took them for a couple days. My pain wasn't real bad, but I figured why be uncomfortable. Congrats on your upcoming surgery.

I got SF liquid Tylenol and liquid pain meds.  I only took the liquid Tylenol 1 time and that was for a headache.  I didn't need a single drop of pain meds.  I actually think I will take it back to the pharmacy so they can properly discard it.  I must have a pretty high pain tolerance???

Good luck!!

Oops. Just realized that I posted in a forum for a surgery I didn't have. I don't know if they give different meds after the lap-band than I got. Sorry. I need to pay more attention to where I'm at!

Good luck with your surgery and afterwards! I'm sure that it will be a breeze. I'm excited for you that it is going to be so soon!

The dr was going to give me Vicodin, but I react better to Tylenol and codeine and that is what I finally got. I used it for the first few days, but didn't need it too long afterwards. I kept it for other pain, like my aching knees after gardening. It's all gone now, though.
Best of luck,
Mary
