anyone wish they had done the sleeve rather than the band?  if so why?

Maybe not the sleeve but gastric. I am about  7 years post op and have not had the success I thought I would. I am trying to get back on track and make the tool work for me .   Ive lost 75 pounds and kept that off for the last 6 years.

I am at the point where I know what I am doing wrong and need to get back on track.

Why are you  having regrets?

I wish I had the Duodenal Switch from the get-go.  When I started, I was 398.  I needed a tool as severe as my weight problem.  But I chose the band out of fear of the other options.  Well 2 revisions later, I finally have the DS.

Just make sure you choose a procedure that matches your needs.  If you've got 80 or under to lose, the band would be good.  If you've got 150 or more, look into the DS.

Thanks...I live on long island also!!!  how weird!    I wish I understood why people didnt like the band as much as the sleeve.  Im going to mexico to get the surgery and dont know if i should just get the sleeve is since it is so less maintenance.  How long were u bed ridden?  If i got it done on a friday...could I sit at a desk at work by wednesday?

I had my DS in two steps, so I had just a sleeve for a year.  Hell no, you can not have surgery on a Friday and show up to work by Wednesday.  I was out of work for 4 weeks.  Truthfully, I could have gone back after 2 1/2 weeks, but 5 days?  No way.

If you are getting your band in Mexico... who is going to help you with the maintenance of fills & unfills of the band here in the U.S?

No, I'm very pleased with my band.  2 years out and down 200 lbs.   I started at 385 at the seminar, 383 day of surgery and yesterday was 184 at the doc's office.

I eat lean protein, green veggies and clean (if/when I can afford organic).  I also exercise 6 days week.  I keep my band tight enough to subdue my appetite, loose enough that I can eat a wide variety of foods.

IF I should lose my band for some reason, and there were reasons I couldn't have another one and IF I couldn't keep the weight off on my own.. then I would consider the sleeve well before I considered DS or RNY.  This is my opinion only, I'm not putting anyone else's choice down.

I wish I had never even heard of the lapband, honestly. It damaged me so badly that I still have lingering effects more than 6 years after removal. It does a lot of damage that goes unnoticed until you start having pain and complications. I'd never recommend the lapband to anyone.

I haven't had the sleeve, but if I could revise, that is what I'd choose, I think.
