Lost fluid and a mish mash of stuff

My previous surgeon stopped taking my ins.  So I had to find a new surgeon.  Yesterday was that appointment.  I felt like someone else did...A twilight zone with regards to the band.  Here is why:

This from the new surgeon "You've lost ALOT of weight with the band! I can't believe it!" and this was said with a incredulous look on his face....
I said uh is something wrong? And he said "No we just don't see this much weight loss with banded patients" uh thats not promising from your office...
Really?! How about 'I see your doing great so far' or something like that!

Anywhoo...I am suppose to have 7.5 in a 10 cc Lap-Band.  Well he pulled what he could out (after declaring my port is tilted and really hard to access (and then scary thoughts of him puncturing my tubing came into my mind) and only pulled out 6.  Where did they go? But seriously where did they go?
He put 6.5 back in. I never lost restriction.  So while I guess a leak is possible...I feel the extra .50 he put in.  Well I guess we shall see.

Now something inspiring to new bandsters:
From March to May I lost 25 pounds!

I'm sitting at 220 for the first time in over 14 years!

Awesome weight loss!
The saline tends to evaporate over time so that's why when we feel like we are losing restriction, we go for a check up/fill!

From what I hear, your new surgeon is good.  There are a lot of bandsters that have been banded by him.

Take care!

all the weight has been lost post-op..I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

highest weight: 333 pounds (I know I gained after my last "weigh in" in the doctors office so probably it's more like 340 pounds)
current weight: 151 pounds (7/12/11)
I've been at goal (165 pounds) for 6 months now and now on maintence.  I tend to go up and down depending on time of the month and such!

Maybe not the best 'bedside manner' --- but I would not be concerned with the inability to retreive all of the fluid you think you have in your band.

It is an inexact  science ---- some fluid remains in the system when they try to extract it --- and it is likely that over time, when you were getting fills, that they were a few drops shy of what you thought went in there.

It is disappointing that some surgeons "don't see that much success with the band" --- but if you read here alot, you will see that many, many people do not keep consistent follow up with their doctors.

Is Dr O still your surgeon?  He did my surgery and up until recently was my doctor also. He is very capable. I had to move to a new surgeon for other reasons.

Im in Cape May County, feel free to message me.

Yeah, don't worry about that at all!  It's really hard to draw out every cc of fluid.  My PA rolls me around, pushes on my stomach and would probably have me stand on my head if I could and we never get everything out when he measures.  Now if you keep losing .5 every time you get a fill I guess you could be concerned, but more than likely it's either evaporated or it's just pooled in one of those little inter-tube pillows that go around the band.

Congratulations on your excellent WL results!

P.S.  Whenever my surgeon introduces me to someone he calls me "one of his Lapband Super Stars".  I guess it's becasue I've lost over the average % of my excess weight for a bandster.  I can understand your surgeons surprise becuase you're losing fast and a lot of weight!

Lap Band surgery Nov. 2008, SW 335. Lost 116 lbs.  LB removal May 2013 gained 53 lbs. Revisied to RNY October 14, 2013, new SW 275.

If the surgeon was dr. O i have heard really great things about him.  I would have gone to him but he didn't take my insurance.

Congratulations on your weight loss!
