I need to have a LAP-Band done. How much does it cost?
Is it worth of going abroad to have it done?

I have no idea, since my insurance paid for it.

But if you are going to be self-pay, remember that going outside the US (or any distance from your home, for that matter) and open you up to follow-up problems. What do you do if you develop a post-op complication? Where do you go for fills? Do you have to go out of state - or out of the country - for them? And please know that a lot of docs are refusing to see other docs' patients.

Just something to keep in mind . . .

I am in Houston and I paid $10,900 (all inclusive) whi*****ludes unlimited follow up for 1 full year after surgery. I paid my doc and he in turn took care of the hospital charges from the lump sum I paid him. Easy breezy.

I was self pay. However, I wish I had challenged it when I got denied by BCBS. In any case, I paid 14,500 including an overnight stay at the hospital. Good luck!

I self-paid 11,990.00 in Tucson, AZ.

that included my psych eval, nutritional assessment, anesthesia, hiatal hernia repair and 3 months of follow up care.

After that point, I have paid 50.00 per office visit with my Bariatric Surgeon (I pay an additional 50.00 for each fill/unfill).

I would say that I have paid a total of about 1,350.00 and lost over 100% of my excess weight.

BEST money I have ever spent (second best money was my Brachioplasty/Breast Lift following my weight loss).

$24,000.00 ......Self pay, and I paid every penny of it. My insurance wouldn't cover anything related to any type of bariatric services; including the required pre-op tests.
A complete waste of money for me. I weighed 243 October of 2008 when I got the band. Today, I weigh 232.
