Fears coming true

I have yo-yo dieted my entire life.  My fear before the lap-band was that it wouldn't work either.  Now for 2 weeks I have not lost one pound.  I did well on liquids and lost 10 pounds.  Then I started on mushies, and I have not lost anything.  Tomorrow I'm supposed to start solid foods, but I'm afraid I won't lose anything with that either.  Should I go back to liquids?  Should I go forward and start solids?  I don't get a fill until the middle of June, but I am so discouraged.
One day at a time, and one meal at a time, and I WILL reach my goal!

It would be soooo nice if we could lose weight at a nice, steady weight, day after day, week after week, month after month...but unfortunately our bodies disagree. Evolution (and/or God) has designed a human body that will do anything, including slowing down the metabolism, to maintain its weight. So I have a suspicion that your body is in shock about losing those 10 pounds and at this very moment is having a committee meeting with all your organs and body parts, with your brain (the unconscious part) leading the meeting. The discussion's going like this:

Brain: Now look here, Kidneys and Bladder. You're working unauthorized overtime. You are to stop eliminating fluid immediately!

Brain: And you too, Muscle Team. You're working much too hard to move our Human around. She weighs 10 pounds less now, so you need to ratchet down your calorie burn NOW!

Brain: Oh, and one last thing. This is for you, Stomach. Quit your whining about that band and start demanding more food! Don't wait for lunch time, demand it right this instant!

Brain: Even I, your Fearless Leader, will be escalating the battle for more calories by launching my infamous Intrusive Food Thoughts Campaign. Now, does everyone understand what needs to be done next? We'll meet again in one week to review our progress. I don't want to see the numbers on our Human's scale go down even by a single ounce, understand?

If I couldn't laugh, I'd lose my mind. Of course, I don't really have a very firm grasp on it anyway...

Don't be discouraged. I believe I have a journal entry that sounded about the same as you, around the same stage. We put all our hopes and dreams into this tool and pray it is what does the trick, because we've tried everything and feel defeated. It can work, but we have to let the bodies natural reaction take it's course.

Continue to follow your doctor's advise. Don't be scared to fuel your body. I can remember how nervous I was about eating. I wanted so badly to do whatever I needed and looking back, I probably ate to little at times. If you do not have the proper nutrition, it will signal your body to slow things down and your weight will reflect this change. My advice would be to hang in there, don't be discourage, and follow your doctor's plan for you. The weight will come off if you follow your doctor's plan and become more active. Best wishes to you! It does get better!

I didn't lose much at all, maybe 2 lbs, during the liquids & mushy stages.   It's when I got back onto regular food that the weight started going.

Hang in there.  And remember that those you see dropping huge amounts of weight were probably larger to begin with.  The bigger you are, the faster you tend to lose.  DO NOT COMPARE yourself to others.  Everyone loses at the rate that's right for them.

I agree with the rest.  Just keep hanging in there and doing the right things, and you will be rewarded with the help of your band.

The second month out from my surgery, I lost a total of . . . drum roll, please! - ONE damned pound. It happens. We go through stages of rapid loss and plateau. You just have to be patient.

Bette,

I'm so glad to hear you say that, because that is me at this point.  I think durning my whole 2nd month, I'm down like a whole 5 lbs....

its much more frustration then I thought it would be.
