I am 1 week post op.  I have protein drinks up the yin yang-a wide variety-I try to drink 3 a day.  I eat 1 yogurt a day. 2 if I'm lucky.  Chicken broth from home made chicken soup.  Some watered down fruit juice. And any zero calorie flavored water.  Any other suggestions??  Oh and another thing, does anyone have a sense of a weird taste in their mouth or have a weird smell??  I am constantly smelling this weird smell and having a weird taste in my mouth.  It's hard to describe.

I am only 1 day post op, so I can't help too much.  However the taste and smell is most likely from anesthesia.  I should pass.  Hope you are well!

You might also be in ketosis if you are losing weight (it's a good thing!)causing the strange tastes and smells.. I find I love just plain old water, especially in the warmer weather. There are lots of calorie free flavors of drink mixes anymore, so browse the drink section at your grocery and see if something tickles your fancy.

HisLady is right.  You're in ketosis.  When you lose weight, fat molecules are released though the tongue, which is why you have that bad taste and smell.  Don't worry, it's a good thing!   And, it will pass...

Do you have an approved diet from your surgeon?  Are you on liquids only or soft foods?  During the liquid stage I was allowed SF popsicles and jello. I also drank V8, 25 calorie Swiss Miss hot chocolate, beef boullion, iced tea, hot tea, Crystal light, flavored zero calorie water,  and coffee.

The bad taste may be coming from the protein shakes.  I didn't experience what you're describing, but I know others that didn't tolerate the protein shakes well.  Hang in there, it will get better once you start the mushy food stage.

Best~
