which band did they use????
I posted earlier about recently being banded and being hungry. Well, I am wondering if it has something to do with the size of band they used. The nurse told me they used the large one, im not sure what the difference is between all of them but I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of band they have. Thanks

I have been wondering the same thing so I called the company that made my band and I found out that there are three kinds that they make... I don't know about other companies.... they told me there is a 4 c band which holds 4 cc and a 10 c band which hold 4 cc and a 10c VG band which hold 10cc. I know that I have a 10 c banc but I am unsure if it is a VG or not. I called my docs office and they told me it just says 10c so I am guessing that I don't have the VG band but.... I just had an unfil because I have been too tight for three years... long story.. and the doc who unfilled my band swears that my band will only hold 4 cc but he pulled out 12cc from my band???? I know the band can hold lots of fluid, not that it should, but it can before it will break..... I don't know if it is important to know which kind you have or not just be sure that you are comfortable with your fills. Your doc should be able to tell you what kind of band you have in and if not then the hospital where you had your surgery should have the info. They have to keep track of all that kind of stuff......
They should all be equally effective. The larger bands might or might not take more fluid to get to the point where the patient's appetite is dimmed.
You can google the different bands (lapband & realize band) to see the differences.
The 4cc band isn't done much, if at all, in the US any longer.
I know someone who started out with a 10cc band, but it was too tight for them, they couldn't even ge****er down in the hospital. They had a second surgery to put in a 14 cc band, 2 days after the first banding. They're doing fine now.

I am going through a similarly frustrating scenario right now. I asked on my very first post op appointment which band I had put in. I was told an Allergan 14cc band. I also was told I was starting empty that the band had not been primed. It seemed accurate since I would get fills and by keeping track I had been at my sweet spot at what I believed to be 8cc's. It sounded great until I got an ulcer and was completely unfilled. They removed 11cc's (huh?). It didn't fit. So I just assumed they primed it and gave me inaccurate info. Moving on I have finally started getting fills again. Well recently I requested my records because I am trying to change to a nearer doctor and when I looked at the file it says I had a 10cc band installed. (Once again, huh?) If I have a 10cc band that means I am only experiencing decent restriction all the way full which in turn caused me to get an ulcer. ARGH! I have gained 13lbs over the last 3 months being unfilled and even though I now have 7cc's in and I am still not experiencing decent restriction. I dont think my doctor is going to allow me to get up to 10 and now knowing that I only have a 10cc band I wouldnt want to. This is all so annoying that I have spent over 2 years on this and now dont know what is going to happen.

I have the 14cc APL Allergan Band. That being said, I'm not sure what it means. LOL I do know that I went for my second post op appointment on Wednesday and was told "wow, I can't believe you've lost so much without a fill AND with the large band." Then she added "you must have had a big stomach." Wow, not sure how to take both of those comments at the same time!!
So from what she said, I should be hungrier with the large band. Hope all that helps somehow!

I think what determines what kind of band we get is the size of our internal stomach. My PA told me that it gives me more time to "work the band". I don't know that we will lose slower. I have lost 40 pounds in 7 weeks and I am far from slowing down.
Talk to your surgeon to put your mind at ease though!

The size of your band has nothing to do with your hunger. Hunger has to do with the restriction you have and how quickly food passes through your pouch.
I have an Allergen 10 cc band. I just had another fill, first in 9 months, due to weight gain and increased hunger. I now can feel the difference as my "hunger meter" is decreased dramatically.
