just had surgery on May 17th and am craving food!!

HELPPPP!!!!! I just had the lapband surgery done on the 17th and I am wanting to eat solid foods!! I understand there isnt anything in the band yet but i didnt think i would have this feeling so soon after surgery either!! Anyone else have this problem??? Thanks!!

It took me a little while longer - maybe 5 or 6 days, but I was starving after surgery as well. Some friends of mine that had this surgery said they had no appetite for at least 2 weeks afterward - NOT ME!

Unfortunately you just need to grit your teeth and bear it. It was very difficult, but you have to remember what's good for your recovery and your band in the long run. Once I was on mushies it was definitely easier. Even liquids is easier, once you can have some protein shakes (for me, this was week 2 after surgery).

But, sadly, you probably will be hungry for the next couple of weeks. My first week post-op I could only have clear liquids and I wanted to chew my own arm off by the end of the week. HANG IN THERE!!!

I think I felt the same way too after a few days. I had a little instant mashed patatoe thing (one in the microwavable cup) and put plenty of skim milk so it was soo thick and it satisfied my need for "real food" after just a couple baby bites.

Not sure what your doc says but my doc said that it was fine after the 3 day mark so maybe that would help.

Thanks for the feedback!! Well, my doctor said day 6-10 that i can have stuff like mashed potatoes. Im just so sick of the shakes lol. I have also been reading the little book that they gave me about the lapband and it says most people dont even think of food for a week or so after surgery and that they have a lot of weight loss in the first week or two afterwards but i havent lost any after surgery!!!! I did lose 18 pounds on the pre op diet though. I just hope i start losing again lol!!!

How much weight have you lost since your surgery if you dont mind me asking

Dont Mind at all, today I hit the 30 lbs lost mark.. so I have a little pep in my step to say the least.

Dont be surprised at you wanting to eat because of what some book says. People are different and heal at different stages and our bodies react differently. I had surgery on April 4th and went for a fill on May 10th.

WOW!!! 30 pounds is great!! Is that all after surgery or before and after? Did it hurt when they did the fill?

Beleive it or not, the day after surgery, I FELT HUNGRY!

That was really disappointing!!!

For two days I had to be on clear liquids and then after the 3rd day I could have yogurts and mashed runny potatoes etc. My doc seams to be a little more relaxed than other doctors. But I dint doubt his strength in the lap-band patients as he has been doing it the longest in Houston and other docs go to him for training in the lap-band.

Anyway... dint worry about how other people feel.. your body is unique, as is everyone else's. ;)

Thanks! :) I can actually say that I am proud of myself. I did not have a pre-op diet or anything preop really. I was a self pay so didnt have to jump through the insurance hoops. so all my weight loss is post surgery.

The fill was a PIECE OF CAKE! I have a high pain tolerance but the needle into the port I would say is comparable to a shot of steroids or something like that but it was quick and it wasnt a big needle either.. just a normal needle thingy with a small iv port for ease of adjustments while there... I stood infront of the xray drank some stuff.. doc said I looked like i was perfect at 3cc added.. and then he took out the needle while standing there and off I went.. Happy as can be.
