HELLERWORK  therapy??  I went to an orthopedic specialist today after seeing my PCP the other day.  I have a recurrance of IT Band Syndrome (I had it in 1997) and since I cannot take NSAIDs, the doctor recommended this type of therapy...
Anyone had experience with it??

Doesn't everyone know about HELLERWORK therapy?

Hellerwork is a dynamic, three-part system of deep tissue bodywork,
movement education, and dialogue designed to relieve stress and pain,
improve posture and alignment, enhance movement and flexibility and
increase energy.

hee hee, just kidding, never heard of it before, but lots of online info.  Interesting!

Steph,

What is IT band syndrome?

I thought IT band problems usually occur in runners, but my chiropractor says my hip pain is caused by tight IT bands. I've been trying to stretch them for months now so far it's not helping.

One thing I hate about living out in the sticks is that the most innovative body work available here is chiropractic care. I have about as much chance of finding a Hellerwork therapist here as I have of finding a Vulcan who can teach me the Mind Meld.

...come on Jean...even babies can do it!

IT band syndrome is an overuse injury (which I don't understand, cause I sit on my ass a good amount of the day).
When I was treated for this in '97 it was with 2400 mg ibuprofen + PT, massage and ice.  The coincidence is that I was losing weight then too...which is why I brought it up with my PCP when I saw him for the abdominal pain that's been waking me up at night.

After I posted that, and was waiting in line at the supermarke****ching my fellow Bubbas and Bubbettes, it occured to me that it might be quite easy to learn the Vulcan Mind Meld out here in the sticks...since it's a Known Fact that alien space ships land in pastures here on a regular basis.

I have a slight tightness in my IT band.  I do yoga and other stretching for it.  I've also been told to get a foam roller.. and do the exercises on the DVD.

Bought the foam roller.. and there it sits.  :)

What are you supposed to do with the foam roller besides watch it gather dust?
