so discouraged

I have lost about 70 lbs and need to lose 30 more. I have had varying fluctuations since December 2010, but basically still at the same weight as then. I feel like I am eating tons of food. I am struggling with ice cream and milk especially. My surgeon's rules disallow any sort of liquid calories and NO ice cream. I am one of those folks who, when told "no" about somthing, want nothing more than that something. I know no one can do this but me, but thanks for letting me "vent".

I too went through a period of discouragement.  It came at the very beginning for me.  Unfortunately, there is no secret to my success.  I continued to go in for my fills and finally got a decent fill.  I watch what I eat  I eat lean protein, complex carbs.  Very few of my calories come from junk food and sweets...I do treat myself once in awhile.  I also exercise 9 hours a week.  I have lost 150 lbs so far.  This is after not losing much during my first year.

So my success is no secret and it's lots of work.  Just do the following

drink lots of water
eat only lean protein
eat only complex carbs
continue to see your doctor for fills
get lots of exercise
Cut your junk food and sweets

Good luck

Sorry you are having a hard time. I agree with eating lots of lean protein for sure. When I was loosing I ate fairly low fat and very low carb. I ate lots of chicken, fish, lean pork loin and egg beaters. I also ate lots of low carb veggies (no corn, potatoes et..). I stayed away from even complex carbs like pasta, beans and rice. I snacked on nuts (1/4 c), low fat cheese sticks and berries (they are lower in carbs than other fruit).
Excersise has so many benefits, one being weight loss. If your not working out I highly reccomend you start. Start out slow and gradually increase your intensity/duration. I strongly agree with your doc. about no liquid calories, they don't fill you up and the calories really add up fast. I just drink lots of water and my coffee in the morning. I hope all this helps. You can do it!

Ice cream used to be one of my binge foods and I still can't have it in the house. Individually-wrapped ice cream treats are safer than big vats of ice cream, but it's quite easy to rip the wrapping off several treats in quick succession.

You say you feel like you're eating tons of food. Have you tried keeping a food log so you know what and how much you're really taking in?

Hi, it is hard when you are told you can't have a certain food. It makes you want it even more. How about popsicles? They are sugar free and taste wonderful. You have to decide whether it is worth the calories or not. Give yourself a gift for not eating ice cream for a week or what ever time frame you choose. Get a good book you have wanted to read. Get a massage, pedicure or a new hairdo. Good luck. Mona

One strategy that works for me when I want a treat is to look up the calories in that treat. Then go work it off on the treadmill or whatever.

I used to LOVE McDonald's sausage biscuits.  I think they're 300 or 400 calories.. haven't checked lately, so I'm not sure of the exact count now.   So I'd go walk on the treadmill until I had burned off that many calories.  Most of the time, after all that walking, I would decide it wasn't worth it.   But if I still wanted it.. I let myself have it and was guilt-free.

Another tactic is to not keep 1/2 gallons of the stuff in your house.  Only buy single servings and one at a time. Make it so you have to get dressed and go get whatever it is that's calling your name.  My local CVS store sells single servings of the skinny cow brand.

I agree.. the "absolute" rule is a very difficult thing to deal with.  When I was first banded, my son would sit in the living room eating ice cream (he'd buy the small 1pint containers). I'd get a spoon and have one, maybe two bites and then go into another room so I wouldn't have to watch him.  It was enough to satisfy, but not enough to sabotage.

 YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

Do you have dogs? I take my dog to the park EVERYDAY and while she plays with her doggie friends, I try to find a way to move around...get some exercise. For instance..I will walk around the dog park looking for balls or frisbees and just tossing them and seeing if any dogs are interested in playing fetch.

Eating right is 1/2 the battle.. you gotta MOVE.
