The dreaded colonoscopy (Truth)

Ok eventually we all have to have this done and I had it done this morning.
Tips for those of you who will have it done:
1. Mix the miralax powder with limeade. (doesn't taste bad)
2. Get the softest toilet paper you can find and have it stocked in the bathroom
3. You WILL be up a few times during he night RUNNING to the bathroom in addition to that evening.
4. The procedure itself was a piece of cake, felt perfectly fine afterward. I left 1/2 hr after the procedure.
This thing is really blown out of proportion.
Best part. Lost 5lbs in less than a day.

Yeah, I think I can handle the actual procedure, but the prep is what doesn't sound good to me..at least the drinking part...yuck!!

I sure could use the results though as I have been having a LOT of difficulty in that department on a regular basis now, so I might have to get one in the near future to check things out....

Blot, don't wipe when you're cleaning yourself.  It will make a huge difference as you get to the end of the process.  Your bottom will thank you for it.

Get some Desitin or Vit. A& D ointment to soothe the sore areas.

If you have a hand-held shower device, that is even better than toilet tissue for cleaning towards the end of the process.

I've not had to do the colonoscopy yet, but had to do the same bowel prep for my hysterectomy.

I had one before my surgery and I did not think it was so bad..

The stuff I had to drink had to be mixed with water, but I kept it in the fridge and having it cold helped....

I also started early enough that at night I was ok - I was scheduled for colonoscopy at 7am...

I LOVE propofol!!  It was amazing...   The place I was gives you a pair of blue paper scrub shorts with a whole in the back... Very modest...

Thanks for the post, I feel better now....... I will be turning 50 this year........was told that would have to be a 50th birtday present LOL... My only concern is how to get in all the liquid.......I can't exactly guzzle much any more.

Talk to your doctors.   There are options to drinking a gallon of liquid.  I think there's something called "half-go-lytely" that's half the volume.  I've heard of using miralax too...

Yep everyone makes such a big deal out of it and thought is was very easy. Uncomfortable prep but certainly not horrendous. I urge everyone to get theirs done starting at age 50, it could save your life!
