Help with Salads
I'm a confirmed salad junkie! I buy the shredded ice berg lettuce that is for tacos and then prechop a whole bunch of salad veggies to keep ready at all times. I also dilute my dressings with either water or vinegar because most of the time they are just too strong tasting. I think I'm gonna try the scissor trick on other types of lettuce cause a change of pace would be good.
Love my salads! Romaine lettuce, red lettuce, & spinach are my fav's. I like to shred carrots in it, add black beans, & I'm going to try the fixins Redbabe put in her post as well. Then I wanna try Lisa's ideas for dressings. Hmm... think I'll have salad for dinner tonight.
As far as the chicken goes, my chicken needs to be either freshly cooked so it is still moist/warm or well-sealed cold leftovers. I'm unable to eat any reheated chicken. You may want to also cut your chicken up into smaller bites & remember to chew the crap out if!
If the salad caused you pain, was it a "stuck" episode? or pain? If it's gas pain, you may want to use a gas-x strip afterwards.
Also, it may just be the quantity of salad. I'm unable to eat anywhere near the quantity that I used to eat.
Enjoy!

hummm? I wonder if it was gas pain I was having... I had a caesar salad tonight with grilled chicken, cut up the lettuce tiny tiny and cut up the chicken tiny and chewed the hell out if it! But I am still having a little pain. I just refuse to give up salad! Thanks all for the tips and the yummy salad ideas. I will keep trying :)
I do better with romaine and spinach leaves as opposed to the "spring mix" stuff. It's too small and I feel like it is getting stuck even without lean protein. I like to add red onions and red pepper to my greens and will add light poppy seed, herbed olive oil or honey djon as the dressing. Once it is in the bowl I put the top on and shake it up. Some of the dressing sticks to the top that is on the bowl so it cuts down on the amount of dressing that is actually on the salad. I usually eat a salad with lunch or as a "big" dinner with added protien (chicken or cheese).
LOL thanks to this post I ate almost nothing but salads the entire weekend. Hislady- ur salad is awesome btw :) thanks for the new addiction :)
I have always had a hard time with chicken in salads so I normally make some prociutto and fry it up then crumble it for the added protein. You can get low sodium prociutto if it is too salty/bacon tasting I actually prefer the low sodium over the regular.

I love my salads, too! I use an old trick I picked up from my days as a Weigh****chers member. I keep my dressing "on the side" in a small cup or bowl. Then I dip my fork into the dressing, and get a bite of salad. That way, you have the taste of the dressing on every single bite, but you're not drowning your salad in it. I find that I use a LOT less dressing when I do this. It works great if you prefer the creamier types of dressing, like Ranch or Honey Mustard (my weakness!) or Thousand Island.
