Got the blues.....

Last summer i was doing my preop and post op liquids and boy was that hard. But i did it because i knew i wanted to be at the place where i currently am at. I never had a specific goal i just knew i needed to loose weight in order to attempt pregnancy again.

So here we are 75 lbs down and slowly approaching summer. And i would really like to enjoy it more by being able to eat at bbq's etc.  I am hungry most of the time and the only thing that stops me from eating is the stuck episodes. I take it slow and eat right, but i am mostly only able to have 1-2 bites depending on what it is. I went to the dr and he took a ugi and said that i am at wehre he would like to see his patients as far as tightness. My weight loss has been consistent and i work out etc.

My point is, I really want an unfill. I avoid going out to eat with family or sometimes even family functions. It is fustrating. I would like to take these training wheels off and have a 1/4 -1/2 a cup of something.

Is anyone or has anyone felt this way? How do i tell my dr this w/out him getting on me? Ultimatley i run the show and it's my body, but how do i stand my gaurd.

Or do you think i am wrong for feeling the way i do?

I want to make something very very clear to you . NO NO doctor can tell you , you have to take a fill and I will not give you a unfill !!!

DO NOT  and I repeat DO NOT  let any doctor tell you no when you want something done.

It's not the doctors job to get you to the point HE thinks is right.  that my friend is your decision and your decision alone . Not the doctor, not me and not your family.  You are the one living with the band nobody else and if you feel like you are to tight then you have every single right to march into that doctors office and DEMAND  a unfill !!!!

And another thing just eating one or two bites per meal is not healthy at all either .especially if you are getting stuck . That can cause you more problems down the line .

You should be eating at least a cup of food per meal my dear not one or two bites.

Dont let these docs scare you , he works for you not the other way around :o)

I want to be able to go out also and go to family events and not worry if Im going to have to throw up somewhere or I can only take a bite or two .  That is no way to live and nobody should live that way .

Go see your doc

Thank you very much for your response. I have to admit, i wasnt expecting support. This dr has a video in the waiting room and he clearly states..."you should only be eating 1-2 bites per meal" I hate listening to that in the waiting room.

I dispize eating now because of the exact reasons you mentioned. I worked hard to get to where i am at right now. And dont plan on gaining it back.  I would still like to loose another 50 lbs but think i just need a slight break from this restriction. SLIGHT...not generous...

My eyes fill up in tears as i reread your response. I am very unhappy and avoid making the phone call in fear of him suggesting i speak to my psycologist (sp?). Please!! LOL.

I am going to make the call with your words whistling in my ear.

Thanks!

ONE to TWO BITES???? holy crap.

1/2 to a cup is what I have heard everywhere and protein first. Getting stuck with one or 2 bites would be enough for me to want an UNFILL. My head hunger would destroy me.

I have no fills in my band , but I like my band on the loose side though and that is just me and if you feel like that is where you want your band then go for it .  There is nothing wrong with that .  You dont have to have that kind of restriction to the point you cant eat to lose weight. It all comes down to eating the proper foods, the right amount, and exercise nothing more . All the band does is keep you from getting hungry and getting full faster that is it nothing more and nothing less :o)  *thanks to Lisa for pointing that out to me again *

If he gives you any kind of problems I would personally report him that he is not giving you the care you deserve especially if he tells you no on something that could and can cause you problems down the line ,  and I would highly think about going to another doctor if you can .

I know that can be a pain in the butt from some of the talk on here, but in the long run your health is much more important and you need a doctor that is on your side and does things that you want done not what he thinks is right.

It's easy for him to say only 1-2 bites per meal and then he goes home and stuffs his face *sigh*  Let him live like that and see how it is . Some of these docs have no consideration for their patients.

I wish you all the luck in the world and keep me updated.

Just remember when you make that phone call do not let him talk you down and you demand a unfill and when you get there do not let him talk you into something you know that you do not want .

One to two bites per meal???? It's doctors like this that are behind many band problems,IMO. .He doesn't know what he is talking about!!  How on earth can you get proper nutrition eating only that much.  I know doctors are different but that is off the deep end.  My doc recommends to his patients 1/2 to 1 cup of food per meal....basically "happy-meal" sized.

Steelerfan is right on target....you can't survive on 2 bites a meal and your doctor works FOR YOU!!!

It doesnt have to be a big unfill either...sometimes just .1 or .2 cc can make a difference.

Good luck!! We are rooting for you :)

Yes Jolena. It's true.

My pre op liquid diet was for 5 days and my post op was for about 7 weeks. ONLY LIQUIDS.....

I really had a hard time believing in my band because i thought to myself... anyone can loose weight on liquids for that long period of time.

We shall see ladies....

Oh I believe you...I'm just amazed at how different the doctors treatments are.  It really pays to be a self-advocate and research because doctors arent gods nor infallible.  I don't just take my doc's word as gospel, don't get me wrong but his advice falls within what is confirmed in the band books I read and research on the web.   I was on liquids for a week before surgery and about 4 weeks after..with soft mushies slowly added.  The band is just not designed to work with liquids only because liquids go right through but its necessary at first because you need to heal.

You might consider getting jean M's book Bandwagon. You can pm her for more info or get it on Amazon. If you get it from her, she'll even autograph it for you. Her book has saved my neck many a time :)  It covers everything you can think of.
