I start my liquid diet to prepare for my surgery tomorrow. I am a) excited because this is an active step towards working to my surgery b) nervous, thinking if I break down and sneak a bite of something somewhat solid I wont be able to stop myself.

How where these two weeks (or for whatever length you did the full liquid diet) for you? Tips on getthing through them?

Do your best and realize that this is the beginning of a journey. For some, the liquid diet is hell. For me, it was a realization... an eye-opener about how addicted to food I really was. It had become my best friend, in a way.

You can do it!! Day by Day... day by day... and keep yourself busy. That's going to get you through the time faster!

Hi Lisa,
The first day or two on liquids were really tough for me, but once I got through that, it wasn't bad at all.  I too, came to realize how addicted I was to food.  I agree to keeping yourself busy.  It was during the liquid phase that I started journaling.

This is the start of an amazing journey for you.  Stay focused and keep your eye on the prize.  You'll do great!

I am in agreement with the other posts. One day at a time and remind yourself that food is just fuel for your body. I made it through my 10 days with a lot of planning- if I knew we were going somewhere (a party, the park), I packed a small lunchbox with ice packs and added my yogurt or atkins or whatever for the afternoon. I also made small check boxes to keep me honest (and help me remember) how many yogurts or carnation instant breakfasts I had had. It does get easier, though I will admit that the day I watched some family celebrate a birthday with ice cream cake and me eating a yogurt was challenging, I made it through. Keep your eyes on the prize!

I agree with everyone on here. Im on my 9th day and the first 2 days was horrible. But I have been keeping myself busy. My hubby had his surgery last wed, so I have been very busy. Its also very mental. You might get mean, depressed, feel a lil crazy. When i felt that way I went to bed. But is has gotten alot better. Im glad Im doing this, so it will have me prepared for after surgery liquid diet. I have lost 14lbs so far...
GOOD LUCK!!!

Lynn
The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time...

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. Thankfully I have a busy two weeks ahead of me to keep my mind off food! Ive written up a few ideas for daily menus to try and keep me on track.

Yes I am still having the band with the gastric plication. I cant figure out how to reflect that under my avatar. :\

What is gastric plication?  I've never heard that one.  The liquid stage is pretty boring, but I found Premier Protein at Costco to be yummy.  The chocolate tastes like chocolate milk.  You will make it even though there are days when you wonder.  Hang in there.
One day at a time, and one meal at a time, and I WILL reach my goal!
