BMI

You know what? I am tired of all this crap about how obsess I still am because of my BMI.  I have lost 85lbs, I weight 179lbs ,I can fit in a M/L shirt, I can  wear 8-12 Size pants ( depending on the material) and I feel better than when I was 20. That BMI chart can kiss my big beautiful A$$. I can not change my ethnic back ground! The women in my culture have big butts, we have thighs, we have breast.. I am not going to apologize for it. I have a big butt and I don’t want it to go away (Neither does my husband). So to all you big butt girl , girls with thighs, girls with big breast, that are struggling to get into a size 2, 4 or 6 really think about why you want to do that. I am happy where I am right now. And that BMI chart can kiss my big beautiful A$$.

I love your attitude :o) I'm like you I dont care about the BMI and to be honest Im not worried if I hit my goal weight either.

My goal right now is get to the point where I can go for walks without breathing hard, go to Disney World and not sit on the sidelines because Im scared I wont fit into a ride,  to have my blood work to come back healthy that is the most important to me.

Im not worried about getting into a size 2-10 pair of jeans if I do great if I dont well anything is better then the 28's I was wearing.

I will be in Disney in December and so want to ride the rides this time. When we went in 06, I only went on a few because I was afraid I wouldn't fit.

I have been there three times once back in 05 and then we went again in 09 and once with my parents when I was 13

Disney has redone alot of their rides now for the heavier people.  Once I got over my fear of not fitting I could ride almost every one of them without no problems but I was still scared to try I had to watch for several minutes heavier people then me going through before I was convinced I could ride on them.  I dont want to be like that when we go back in the  summer of 2013 for two weeks.

some of them was a tighter squeeze but I rode them . I was 320 pounds when I went back in 09.

They call us bigger people at Disney Pooh Size :o)   I just love that word lol.  So when they did redo their rides they did them for the pooh size people which is us .

The only ones I did not go on was Fast Trac and Space Mountain.  My hubby weighs 260 and had some problems with them two rides so I didn't even try them .

You got to ride Aerosmith that roller coaster rocks !!!!!

I couldn't agree with you more.  Even the docs will say, "well the BMI doesn't take into consideration muscle mass, etc"....I mean come on.....You are doing a kick ass job!!!  I love you attitude!!

My choice to have surgery isn't to be a size 4, if it happens great, but my goal is to be healthy and to be better off then I was at 286..  Guess what I already am, at 30lbs down!  So its all good from here!!

Raise the glass to all of us kick ass women!!!

I agree with you as far as looks go.  I would be happy as just merely overweght as my BMI...but I want good health too.  There are so many studies that relate high BMIs to heart disease and other life threatening diseases.  Please see the exert from the American Heart Association explaining the risks of high BMIs.

Although most of the comorbidities relating obesity to coronary artery disease increase as BMI increases, they also relate to body fat distribution. Long-term longitudinal studies, however, indicate that obesity as such not only relates to but independently predicts coronary atherosclerosis.9 14 15 This relation appears to exist for both men and women with minimal increases in BMI. In a 14-year prospective study, middle-aged women with a BMI >23 but 25 but

Technically my BMI is 35 right now.  I am fine with that.  I'm 6'4" and weigh 278 as of this morning.

I can wear a XL/XXL  shirt depending on the designer and I can fit into a 38 waist.  For me that's just fine.

I wish I could remember where/what I read just recently read regarding the BMI. If I find the article again, I'll post/link it.  The article basically said that the BMI wasn't the only thing to consider when evaluating where you were health-wise.

That your waist size (1/2 of your height) and your waist/hip ratio (.79 or smaller) are also things to consider.

My BMI still has me at Obese.  A big improvement over SMO (super morbidly obese) where I started.

My waist, since I'm 5'5" or 65 inches, should be 32.5.  Last month it was 34.75, so I'm getting closer.

My waist/hip ratio is .79 which is considered a healthy ratio.

I'm very happy at now being a size 14/16 instead of a 34/36.   I'm working on losing more, but if I never get any smaller, I'm OK with it.   Being health and happy is a great goal for anyone!!
