I eat soup, but I limit myself to one regular sized bowl of a hearty soup.

The nutritionist suggested that I drink/eat the liquid part of the soup first, then eat the solids.

If at home, I serve myself with a slotted spoon so I get very little liquid.

Hi Pete,

Me personally I can not eat soups because they will go right through me and I'm hungry again within a hr or two .

I ha vent had soup since my second week post op .

four bowls is alot especially if there is protein in that also but if its all liquid then it will just go right through you but like you said you are eating alot of calories , and on top of it the sodium is probably really high also .

Sodium is a killer for anybody trying to lose weight. .

If you are not post op I would really get some protein in you and lay off the soups

If you are post op well then that is a different story . When I was allowed to have soups during my post op I was allowed to have much as I wanted as long as it had nothing in it that I had to chew .

They consirded my soups as liquids then and calories didn't mean a thing at the time.

It really depends on where you are at right now with your lap band :o)

I could just kick myself!! Thanks Steelerfan for reminding me about the SODIUM.  I've plateaued for the past month but I have been taking Progresso's Tortilla soup to work for an easy and tasty lunch for several weeks now, forgetting ALL about the friggin sodium content. Duh.

So I ditched the soup today and brought sliced turkey breast and veggies instead.

Jolena,

you are welcome :o)   Sodium is so hard on me I really really have to watch it *sigh*.  I have to stay under 2000 a day or dang close to 2000 if not I will bloat up like a balloon .

I ate pizza Sat night due to a craving well we know the sodium in pizza and on top I'm retaining water from my period getting ready to start .

I'm up almost 5 pounds and I put all that on me in 48  hrs so I know its not fat bu****er but man can it play with your mind when you get on them scales especially when you work out like I do .

I just cried today because that put me back up to 302 in the 300's *sigh*  Like I said I know its all water but it still hurts though when you see that :o( .

I begged for water pills and he wont give them to me , he said the more weight I lose the less and less water I will retain.  He said heavy people retain alot of water but it gets better as we lose.

So hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can get back to normal again lol

I'm 2 years post op like you Pete.  I love soup, but I had to do a reality check a few months ago when I realized I was eating a lot of soups and chili's because I KNOW it will go through the band without trouble.  It's called maladaptive eating when you start choosing sliders instead of dense protein and veggies becuase it's plain easiery not to worry about chewing, getting stuck, etc.  I gained weight doing this and also realized that I was keeping my band too tight.  It was just such a hassle trying to eat protein that I subconciously turned to soft foods.

The sodium is also a valid issue that I'm sensitive to.

Sounds like you've identified the problem, so limit soups to 1/2 to 1 cup if you really want it and remember that it's never the best choice if you want to stay fuller, longer.

We all need a reality check once in a while along the way!

Your results are awesome!  Congrats!
