I finally have surgery scheduled for June 13th 2011. I'm excited to get the band. I debated in choosing a surgery but I decided that the band is the right surgery FOR ME. Anyone have any advice in getting prepared for life with the band? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Start practicing all the band rules NOW! It will REALLY add to your success. I wish I would have listened to that advice more! Practice chewing, not drinking with meals, exercising a bit, etc, etc. Congrats on the date!!

Congrats !!!!  You will be just fine.

If you are drinking soda/ pop then I would highly recommend to start cutting it out of your life. No more soda once the band goes in well let me say you are not suppose to drink any more of that stuff lol.

Im not a big carb/ sweets eater but if you are you want to start trimming that back in your life also that way its not such a shock when you do get the band.

I usually stay around 50-70 carbs per day . Some  days it's more due to the exercise I do .

Congrats on the surgery !!! I love my band and would do it all over again :o)

Congratulations on your date! Like the other posters have mentioned, stop soda now, it's an absolute "No, No" after surgery and practice eating. You have to learn to take small bites and chew, chew, chew before swallowing. I am still having trouble remembering to do this if I am in a hurry...trust me it doesn't feel to good if you don't. Another thing, perfect your protein shake, more then likely you will have to replace all food with them a few weeks prior to surgery. It took me a few days, but I finally got a few that tasted so good I am still drinking them! I am keeping a journal to reflect on, and I keep going back to it whenever I am having bad days, it's a nice way to remember why you are doing this! It's almost been 2 months since my surgery and I am loving it!
