Anyone have any advice on reducing surgery scars? My surgery was almost 2 months ago and they don't seem to be going away. I am still putting neosporin on them, but nothing is happening.

Thanks!

I havent had surgery yet, but i had a couple biopsy's done (on my stomach, ouch!) a while back and once the stitches were removed and the incision healed i used cocoa butter lotion RELIGIOUSLY and although they havent entirely disappeared they are very light and gettin lighter. Hope that helps! Good luck

Thanks! I have heard that it works on stretch marks, but I haven't tried it. I guess when your body is full of them, you start to think why bother? I will run out and get some today and see what happens. I have seen a few after pictures and it looks like there is a way to reduce them.

Np Girl ... I read somewhere that drinking water and using moisturizers for your skin helps a small amount with the elasticity in your skin as your losing weight. Just a few tips :)

Give it a bit more time...a year from now they will be very light.

you should use cocoa butter anyway as this helps the elasticity of your skin (up tp a certain point, don't expect miracles!) and it will keep your skin soft and moisturized. After my surgery cocoa butter is the only thing i use!

I'm one of those who makes keloid really easily and my lapband scars (2 years out) now just look like large freckles.  I wouldn't sweat it, but if putting something on them makes you feel better.. go for it.  :)

I've had 2 c/sections.. scar is very minimal now after 23 years.

I had endometrial cancer.  I had a lap hysterectomy about 18 months before I was banded.   I used to keep a blog.. this is what I posted about scars on March 2, 2008.

For centuries, many indigenous cultures in Africa, such as the Nuba, have been connoisseurs of scarification. These "beauty operations" are both ornamental and functional. Scars are proof of courage and evidence that one can endure pain without complaint. They represent stages of maturity, how many children a woman has borne or family lineage. They are regarded as appealing and erotic to touch. In some tribes, a scarified woman is seen as sexually demanding and therefore sought after.

In ancient India, warriors proudly showed their scars – if they were on the front of their body. Frontal scars were the mark of a fierce survival of battle. ....

I want my scars to be beautiful.

I know the chances I will ever again wear a two piece bathing suit or hiphugger jeans and a midriff top are very slim.. but if I were to.. it would soothe my soul to know that my scars would be looked upon as a sign of courage.

Think of your scars as a sign of courage and maturity.  :)

Thanks everyone! I know they will get smaller and will never really go away. I also know I will probably never wear a bikini. For me, it's a self image issue...it's just another unattractive thing on my body. It just bothers me a little bit, If there is anything I can do to help it I will :)
