Usually I get sharp pain in my chest after eating something that has become stuck. I also get really bad back pain and have to go and lay down until it passes.

My heartburn got so bad that I had to sleep sitting up.  Eventually I was choking on the acid at night and waking up coughing.  This was after my Lap-Band slipped and I finally had it taken out a couple of days ago.

It is most likely that you DO NOT have a slip, but if you are having heartburn you may want to hold off on any fill until it is over with.  The only times I had heartburn with the band was when it was too tight and that was something that I went for an immediate unfill to fix.

I agree with the others Renee that is nothing to mess around with that is a sign of something and telling you to talk to your doc.

I know my doc personally if we have heartburn he will NOT even think about giving you a fill and any doc that does give you a fill if you are telling him you have heartburn is a idiot !!

I would get that taken care of before you even think about getting a fill .

I know me personally I wouldn't even consider getting a fill .

No weight loss is worth taking changes on your health or causing problems that could cause you to lose your band

Just be careful :o)

I developed heartburn several months after a fill before.  It was so severe I was in bed.  I had a .5 unfill and it fixed the problem, although then I was too loose.
I had another fill recently that brought me back to the level that I once had heartburn at.  The heartburn was horrible again that not even a Prilosec would help.  So I had another unfill.   Once again I am too loose but cannot be filled anymore due to the severity of heartburn.
So yes, heartburn is an indication of being too tight and can cause major problems in the long run.

Oh and even being too loose (according to upper GI).  I still get stuck on a consistent basis and end up vomiting even when taking small bites and chewing a lot.
Inconsistencies are big problems with the band.

heartburn is never a good thing, with the band it can mean you are too tight...so be sure to tell them tomorrow that you are having problems....you might not need a fill, you might need a little unfill.  Let us know what happens!

When you first experienced heartburn did you take something to relieve it.. sometimes when it gets ignored it gets worse .. second you need to see your doctor and let him know about the heartburn he might give you a tiny unfil to relieve you of the heartburn and give your espogus (spelling ?? ) a break.

Good luck

honesty is it heartburn, is the real question? If you eat too fast and your food is getting slightly stuck you will have a horrible pain in the same area... what i would do is ... test yourself!! sit down by yourself not near a tv or busy at all and eat that same food but make it even smaller than normal bites and chew 25 times and then wait a few seconds before putting in the next bite.. do this for a bit if this heartburn doesnt occur that can be wat it is.. certain foods i ate almost through my whole year i cannot eat now cause it does give me that horrible pain... check it out... and then talk to your doc if thats not it
