Goal Weight or Goal BMI
I just put 155 . With my height and bone structure doc told me between 150-180 .
I could very well get to 180 and feel really good about where I am at and never get to 155.
Right now that is just a number . My main goal is just to get in the hundred's to be honest. I just got out of the 300's so working on 200's now so got a long ways to go lol.
I could really care less about the BMI number. As long as I feel good , my blood work comes back normal it dont matter what number it is.
Sometimes you just have to go with what you are comfortable at and dont worry about numbers so much . :o) As long as you are healthy and you feel good about yourself that is all that matters

For my height, 155 is a BMI of 25 --- it is also the top of the 'healthy weight range' for Weigh****chers.
I attend meetings, and set the goal at the top of the range so I could get there and get to my Lifetime status (free meetings) --- and then lose a little more as a 'buffer'
155 is my 'do something now' number --- if I see that number on the scale, I go into 'diet mode'
Mostly I stay at about 148 these days.

I just kind of did mine based on what I think I needed to get down to before I gained all the weight. When I was 134 I was a size 14. When I lost down to 120 on one of my diets I was still fat. I would actually have to be close to 100 at my height and bone structure. I think many of us have our goal weight and our "I'm ok with" weight.
I took the top weight for a healthy BMI and the lowest weight for a healthy BMI and picked the middle number. Not sure if I will make this number or not, I am actually right now about 3 pounds away from high end normal, and am currently ok with my weight. Do I see where the fat still is? Yes, yes I do! If it comes off great, if it doesn't, Oh well!
I picked150 because it felt like a number I could get to and stay at. I am closing in on it now and I am feeling like it is possible. I just hit a BMI of 25 this am and also feel like I finally got to a healthy goal in my BMI as well. I can't imagine getting all the way down to the low end of the weight/BMI scale though. So , in short, I aimed for something that I could live with and feel good about. Good luck to you as you find your own goal.
I have an "attainable" goal of 170.
I dream of reaching 140 or 150, but I'm not sure I can reach that or if I do, if it's maintainable.
Right now I'm around 187 and pretty satisfied.
Edited to add:
I don't agree with the BMI. It has many flaws, as it's not accurate for athletes, older people ( which I'm slowly becoming one..haha) or those who've been obese a long time (long term obesity causes bones to be heavier than usual.. skewing the results).
The BMI is a decent starting place to determine healthy weight, but it's not the end-all/be-all IMO. YMMV.
I really like the waist-hip ratio as an additional measure of health. http://www.healthcalculators.org/calculators/waist_hip.asp

I just don't buy into the BMI. It just doesn't fit everyone and I personally think it's useless and misleading.
I originally picked a goal weight of 150 which is what I weighed in my early 30s. I looked good and felt good at that weight. Well, two years into my lap band journey and still only half way to that goal, I've really set a new goal of just getting under 200. I'm just looking at shorter term goals now. Once I reach that goal, I'll set another. I'm not sure if I'll ever hit 150 and I'm not sure if I care. Even at 150 I'd still be too heavy according to the BMI chart - another reason I don't care about the chart. I just want to feel healthy and the weight # doesn't really matter to me anymore.
