I didn't have to do any pre-op diet other than clear liquids the day before surgery.  Don't hate me.

Green zone is where I eat my 3oz of protein, 1/2 cup of veggies and am satisfied and don't need to eat again for 4 or more hours.

This doesn't mean I don't WANT to eat, but I don't need to eat anymore to be satisfied physically.  Unfortunately, even when in the green zone, we can still face head hunger or emotional hunger.  :(

the pre-op diet was the worst for me, though I did cheat a little! In the evenings I had a boiled egg, and a soup afterwards. I just kept in mind what may happen if I don't stick to it- my doc made it quite clear: If the liver does not shrink enough, they cannot do the keyhole surgery, so it is up to the surgeon- either they see the liver is too big and don't do the surgery at all or they may cut the whole stomach open to acces where they need to go....this was enough information to scare me off! the 2 week diet was a pain, but take it one day at a time. Plus you will already lose some weight, which will make you feel great :)

My pre-op liquid diet was clear liquids, not full and it was only for a week.   The first and second days were the hardest.  I did have a few saltines each of those nights.  Only 4 I think.  I dont remember.   I could only take so much damn broth! LOL  but eating the crackers with the broth helped a little.   Mind you - I dont condone it, just follow your doctors orders.  I actually called the Dr Office and asked, and they understood.   It was hell though.  I'm not even going to lie.  But since I HAD to do it and I knew what the reward would be at the end of the week, my god it was SO worth it.  I'm sure my husband wanted to kill me though.  I was the biggest *****! LOL Watching him and my daughter eat in front of me... ughh

As far as the Green Zone.  It varies for each person and what their level of restriction is.

MY Green Zone...  I feel like I'm there now, and have been for awhile.    I can eat  4oz of protein, and either 1/2 cup of veggies, or salad.    Or, just 6oz of protein and thats it.  I"m really bad about getting my veggies in, mostly because my fave veggies arent band friendly...  broccoli and asparagus.

The good news is that the liquid diet isn't so bad after the first 3 or 4 days.  What helped me the most was staying busy! I would go to the mall to walk around and fantacize about all the skinny clothes I would be able to wear someday.  Go to the movies, skip the popcorn. Make love to your hubby. Anything to distract your mind from food. And for heavens sake stay away from the television. You'd be suprised how many pizza, ice cream and carrabbas comericals will there are on tv. They'll drive you nuts!

i just recently hit the green zone. and I'm lovin it! I eat my about a 1/2 plate of food and I am done. They best part is that  I don't get hungry for another 4- hours.

Good luck with your surgery!
