Has anyone out there with the lap band end up with their's dilated. I am supposed to be on liquids for one week and soft foods the second week then a week of small meals. I have to go back to drink the barium in 3 weeks. I am scared. How serious is my position. Has anyone out their experienced a stretched out stomach and esophagus. I would love to hear from you. gingger388

I've dilated my esophagus twice. Once with up to 3 months worth of food. I was unfilled & put on the almost same eating schedule you posted. Everything returned to normal. I did experience a little discomfort as the esophagus went back into it's unstretched position.

Jo,
What made you aware that there was a problem and how did you know there was 3 months worth of food in there?

I'm assuming they also took all of the fluid from your band?  This is pretty standard as far as I've read hear on this forum.
Were you too tight and eating more than 1/2 c food at a time?  I'm always so curious as to how this happens.

Take care.  I'm praying for a positive outcome!

Yes Lisa O., my band was tight and I over ate which strecthed my pouch. I appreciate your response because I have been scared I was the only one out there with this problem. I am praying I can get this problem fixed by following this strict diet of liquids one week then soft foods the next week. Ginger388

The first time it happened I didn't know it. I went to my surgeon with complants of a tight feeling in my throat 24/7, dry coughing, and noticing that when I swallowed something cold I couldn't feel it "hit" my stomach.
The second time I was super stressed. I had just had a baby, my father passed away from cancer, & I myself was getting ready for surgery & then treatment for cancer. I wasn't paying attention at all to how I was eating. Then I noticed I started having asthma like conditions. Especially when I'd try to eat. I had to sleep inclined or I'd have an "asthma" attack. My GP kept giving me inhalers. It finally hit me to go see my surgeon. And he did a image of my throat & came back in the room and showed me where the food was packed from the top of my band to literally the back of my throat. It's a wonder I didn't choke myself to death one night while sleeping.
