I was wondering if there are any Teachers out there with the State Health Plan that have had Gastric Bypass (RNY) surgery that could give me some tips on how they were able to pay for the deductible and coinsurance and still have money left for supplements and protein drinks??

Might want to ask that on the main board or the bypass board. This is the lap band board. Requirements and coverage is completely different.

It's different from state to state.  In Arkansas, any and all bariatric surgery is excluded.  I was self pay, borrowed from my retirement investments (not state retirement).

I'm a teacher, with BCBSNC and have been approved for RNY - now finding the money to pay for all of it...well, that's a different story.  We all know that we aren't in teaching for the money and the budget cuts just get worse.  I am blessed to have a husband with a decent paycheck and a supportive family who have told me many times..."We will let you fall if you need it, but we will never let you fall far."  I'm sorry I'm not more help to you.  How was surgery or have you had it?  I'm scheduled for Aug.9th.  I'm terribly worried about when/how to get back to work.  Good luck and feel free to keep in touch.
