I'm really trying so hard to quit SMOKING!!! I had to quit for my surgury, but then I got really STRESSED and started back!!! I quit in 1995 for 12 years!! I started back in 2009 due to A LOT OF STRESS... I had a major heart attack in 2009 and now I really just need some support on quiting!! I'm on my starters week of chantex till Monday.... Just want to know if ANYONE else is struggling with quitting??? The PROBLEM is: I LOVE TO SMOKE!!! However, I love my life and family more!!! April 25, 2009 is when I had my heart attack!!! It so happens to be my QUIT date also and I didn't even plan it like that!!! FREAKY HUH?????

It really is hard!!!!!   My friends and family all were put on Wellbutrin and that seems to have really helped.
You can do this!!!

I wish you luck.  I did NOT want to quit smoking, but I was required to do so in order to get banded.  I was prescribed Chantix, and it was a miracle drug for me.  For someone that didn't want to quit at all, I would say it works.  I have been smoke-free for 3 1/2 years now, and I used to smoke almost 2 packs a day for 20 years.

I followed the timeline that Chantix sets out.  I can't remember what that is for sure.  After about 3 days of taking Chantix, the flavor of cigarettes changed for me.  They started tasting like iron, it was gross.  On my actual quit day, I was a ***** from hell.......I was angry at having to quit.  I wasn't dealing with cravings by then, but I was still mad.  I made it through though, and the next day, I was completely fine!

Good luck to you!!

well, congratulations on deciding to quit again.

quitting is so, so hard. it was way harder than anything i've done with the band (including the liquid diet). it took me about a year (quit for five months, started, quit, started, quit, started). i finally smoked my last cig right before i started my pre-op liquid diet. that's not to say that i haven't been tempted to pick one up --- believe me, i have. i loved to smoke too, even knowing what it was doing to my body. i won't, however, let it undo all i've done to get (and now, keep) the band.

i wish you luck, because i know your struggle!

I loved to smoke also , I smoked to deal with stress instead of eating thank goodness I didn't turn to eating when I quit .

My doc when he does his blood work on us he does a nicotine test and if we test positive for it he can refuse to see us again for the lap band.

He is so strict about that and he made that very clear when I went to see him since I was a smoker so that alone has scared me enough not to start back up you never know when he will blood work done .

You can do this you have done it before . But to be honest and I dont want to sound mean here and honestly I'm not till YOU are ready to quit not because you have to because of a doctor, or because you had a heat scare till YOU are ready to quit you will struggle with it till it comes the time that you really want to quit.

It's just like weight loss you have to be in that zone to lose weight .   Like I said you can do this you did it before so you know you have the strength to do it .

Good Luck.

This is my six month anniversary this month and I know in my heart if I would ever pick up another smoke I would  be right back to smoking again .
