Proof that exercise really does make a difference
In the fall of 2008, when I was at my goal weight (+/- 2 lbs), I went to a bariatric conference in Dallas where someone had organized a clothing swap. I picked up a pair of bleached denim cropped jeans, misses size medium, that fit me perfectly.
When I'm at a good weight, my idea of perfect fitting jeans is: narrow legs (because I'm so short that wide or bootcut legs make me look like Popeye), waistband at my waist, not below (otherwise my panni pushes the waistband down), and not too tight around the hips/lower abdomen (to avoid creating the dreaded jelly-roll stack)
.
(Note: when I'm at a bad weight, my idea of perfect fitting jeans is: a medium-size pup tent, preferably in a dark color.)
Last week it got hot here so I got out those perfect jeans and put them on, and guess what?
They're too big.
I weigh the same now as I did in the fall of 2008, so why are those jeans too big? If you tell me they've stretched out, I'll be sure to point out that your jeans are too tight because they shrank in the wash. Those jeans are too big because all the exercise I do has been replacing fat with muscle, and since muscle takes up less space than fat, my body is skinnier even though it weighs the same! Mind you, it's taken me 2-1/2 years of exercising to get to this point, but I really can't complain about the results!
