Band Grads group

A few years ago, bandsters lobbied OH for a private board. It took a lot of hard work (not by me, I think a lot of it was by ChelleB, SharonT and NancyB) before they agreed.

We had the situation where the sheer nastiness was out of control. We had regular "invasions" by people from another board who were not just anti-band but virulent and offensive. Then, to make it even sillier, we started getting "fights" between bandsters. Really nasty ones! I remember the great should-you-have-protein-shakes war! Crazy! Bandsters tearing each other to shreds over such a silly thing.

Then one poster found out negative things about another regular poster (totally unrelated to wls)and started to what amounted  to a hate campaign against her.  Others joined in. It was so very unpleasant.

Vets were leaving in droves.  So ChelleB and others fought for us! And we got our private group.

We are not elitist. Anyone with a posting history, who is not a troublemaker and who is over one year post-op with the band can join! But there are rules! No nastiness, no offensive posts, no copying of Band grad posts onto other boards. Break the rules and you are out.

End result, a lovely, friendly board. A lot of vets stayed on OH, some who adh left came back and many  (like me) come over here as well. I would have left OH long ago without the BG group! It is my safe haven when there is silliness here.

It is also very nice for vets to have a place where all the threads address their own concerns. People will know that I answer lots of Qs from newbies, but sometimes it is very restful to be somewhere where there are no Qs about wls choice, post-op diets, first fills etc..

And you can all join after 12 months if you just allow the mods to check to make sure you are not a troll!

Thanks, Kate!  I'm glad there is a safe haven for you to go to!  I appreciate-so much-that you continue to come to this board.  I found your input so helpful!  I'm a newbie but can't wait for that year when i can join!

Oh, I remember those protein shake wars all too well!!  I also remember when the DS'rs first started bombarding our board.....leading to creating the R&R board, which is now gone.  I just can't quite remember someone's personal stuff being splashed on here.......guess I was way out of the loop on that one!  ha ha

I don't spend too much time on the Grads Board, but I am glad it's there!  I am also glad you are here, Kate!

"She who is without sin, cast the first stone." Sorry, Kate, but I have to disagree with you.  When I was in that group several years ago there was ,  nastiness, offensive posts, copying of Band Grad posts into other boards.  These people remained on this Band Grads forum.. You know this and I know this.  Newbies on the regular band forum were criticized and made fun of.  Any one that posted an opposing view was dissed on the Band Grads forum.  It sounds like maybe it has been "cleaned up" hopefully so.

Yo may know that! I don't.

I do know people who broke the conditions had to leave, esp those who copied posts.

I was one of the very earliest members and I can't remember the nstiness you describe.

We are going to have to agree to differ on this one!

sesmith - do you want me to ask the mods about it for you? If you meet the criteria, they will let you in! It may just be that there is virtually no info about you on your profile and ( I may be wrong here) I don't think you post much on here.

Hello Kate.
I am new to the forum and this sounds exactly what I am looking for. How do I contact the mods?
