Pregnancy Lap-Band
Hi, I am new to this site and am considering Lap-Band surgery. I was wondering, is it possible to carry a baby to full term should I choose to have kids after lap-band surgery? Anyplaace you can suggest for me to start my research on this surgery type? I'm in Pittsburgh, Dr reccomendations would be great too!
Hi and welcome. You are in a great place to research the lap band but since you are in the research stage, I highly recommend that you research all the other types of WLS as well...DS, VSG, RNY. You may find that one of the other is a better fit for you. Only you can know that. I wont bore you with stats and what not but if you want information about my personal experience, don't hesitate to ask.
As far as getting pregnant with the lap band or any other WLS, I don't see why there will be a problem, many have done it and have very healthy post-op kids.

I have heard off alot of bandsters having healthy babies...just have the fluid taken out before delivery. I absolutely love my surgeon Dr. Anita Courcoulas at Magee. You have to do a six month suprivised diet and you start the process by calling and making a reservation to attend a seminar. Just know with the band there is alot of follow up. I went about every six to eight weeks until I got to a good spot. Let me know who you end up going with or if you have any questions.

Hi jenn,
Thank you so much for responding! I am considering Anita Courcoulas at Magee! She is at the top of my list actually. I am excited to hear from you and any of her patients! I am attending a seminar next Friday, though she is not the speaker that evening. I am not sure if my insurance covers Lap-Band. It is Highmark PPO Blue. Does anyone know about this insurance covering?

Yep I have that insurance. Call the number on the back of the card and ask them if your policy covers bariatric surgery and I'd so the lapband. I believe that Anita is the best of the best. The band takes a lot of dedication and determination. Good luck to you.
