Praying before surgery

This may seem like a strange question but did anyone ask the doctors and staff to pray with you before they started?

No but my Pastor came to see me before and prayed with me. Alot of docs are Christian tho so you could ask him before hand if he would be OK with it. If not there's no reason you can't say a silent prayer yourself before the surgery and ask God to guide the surgeon and his work.

I did.  There is a great book/CD called, "Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster" by Peggy Huddleston.  It really helped me focus on the positive and stay calm leading up to the surgery.  Here's a little description of the process.  You can get the book on Amazon.

She encourages patients to meet with their anesthesiologist and to have the doctor read a series of healing statements during the surgery. There is evidence, she says, that unconscious patients can hear comments in the operating room, even if they will not be able to remember what is said.

I was a little apprehensive about this, thinking they would look at me like I was nuts, but it turns out they even give seminars on this book at the hospital where I had my surgery, so it wasn't even a surprise to any of them and they were very accomodating.

Plus, I listened to the relaxation CD everyday leading up to the surgery.  It  really helped me.  Good luck!

Before my hysterectomy, I had to go under to have a biopsy because it was too painful to endure woke.  I was so nervous.  My nurse asked me if I would like to pray.  I was sooooo happy that she asked.  I would think it depend on your belief and their beliefs.

How about asking us to pray for you at a certain time?  I'm a RN and never had anyone ask me before.  I would if they asked.  I pray everytime I go up in the elevator to my floor when going to work.  I ask for patience with my patients!  I ask for stable patients.  etc  etc......  I'm not super religious, but I do pray.
