General anesthesia
Not to worry I've had 13 surgeries in the last few years and haven't had any problems. Trust me they want you to wake up fine and dandy as much as you want to! The last thing any of the surgeons want is something to go wrong, mhey are gonna do everything in their power to make sure things go well for everyone!
I was incredibly scared. I didn't think about it and didn't think about it and all of the sudden it's the morning of my surgery and my husband and I are sitting there in the room and I'm all suited up and I just started shaking all over. Out of the blue I was like
OH MY GOD I AM GOING TO WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF SURGERY AND I WILL DIE!
Fortunately for me and my poor husband, that's when the anethesiologist (sorry if I butchered that spelling...) showed up to walk me through what it was going to be like, what to expect and to see if I had any questions. I told her what I was worried about and you know what? She was great. She reassured me, told me that my fears were normal, I wasn't crazy and that her job was to keep a very close watch over me the entire time to make certain that I'm not going to wake up. But probably what helped the most was the first dose of drugs that they give you. It didn't put me to sleep but by the time I got into the operating room, I was SO calm. Not like high as a kite or anything, just... relaxed.
It is scary. I'm with you. But my experience was really good. And yours will be too! But talking to the anethesiologist and explaing what I was nervous about and asking questions that morning really helped me. I would encourage you to do the same thing.
Good luck!!

I had general anesthesia for the first time when I had my tubaligation (about a year before my lapband). I have to tell you I don't drink, I have never used drugs, and do not have an addictive personality, but WOW I really liked the awesomeness of general anesthesia. See they wheel you in, cover you in extremely warm blankets, and then you begin to feel extremely relaxed. Then what feels like seconds later you wake up. HOWEVER, both when I had my tubal. and lapband I was extremely sick feeling as a side effect so the next time I was put under (I had a tumor removed) the gave me Zofran. I wasn't even a teensy nauseous, so tell ask your nurse and I'll bet they will put it in your IV before you wake up. Best of luck!!

I have had surgeries in the past. But I was never put under general anestesia. It was always either a spinal or epidural. I was so scared about the anestesia that I came very close to backing out f my surgery. When I went for my pre op appointments I had a meeting with anestesia and they were very reassuring. They took my health history, gave me an exam and asked about my family history with general anestesia. They make sure to cover all their bases. I am sooooo glad I didn't back out. I went through the surgery with flying colors. I weighed 470 at the time of surgery which is what worried me the most. Everything went perfectly and all the worry was for nothing. The anestesiaologist who do thses surgeries are very experienced and regularly work with over sized patients. They wouldn't do the anestesia on someone if they felt that there was a great risk.
