General anesthesia
I've had quite a few surgeries and have never been afraid of general anesthesia, but I've heard lots of people say they're anxious about it, and they all survived it. What specifically frightens you about it? Are you afraid of not waking up afterward? Afraid of waking up during the procedure? Afraid of not being conscious and in control?
Unless someone in your family has a history of bad reactions to general anesthesia, I think your risk for something bad happening is pretty slim, and in the operating room you'll be surrounded by medical professionals who know exactly what to do if something goes wrong.
I suggest that you discuss this with your surgeon so he/she can allay your fears. If you're still anxious about it when you get to the hospital or surgery center, discuss it with a nurse and request some medication to help relax you.

I am the same way and this is known by any doctor that operating on me and I get a prescription for Valium. When I had my band..Valium, So if you really afraid, talk to your doctor, I took the Valium before I left home and I had no fear, I was just calm. I was telling the doctor to let get it over and I am told when I came to, I was singing "you are so beautiful"
I was really scared to. I cried when they wheeled me to the room. This had been my second surgery in my lifetime. the first one was when I was 6 yrs old so I dont remember anything about that.
It's nothing to worry about trust me :o) . They calmed me down , I got into the operating room and I said this looks exactly the show ER lol I felt a sting of something going into my IV cause I said that stung and then I was out like a light and waking up and some dude staring at me lol.
You will be just fine :o)

Hi there - I've had a few surgeries, too, and really, there is nothing to worry about with the anesthesia. Once they put the IV in, I don't remember much. I remember being escorted down the hall and then....nothing, LOL. In all my past surgeries, I remember the operating room, getting on the table, counting backwards from 100....this surgery, nothing! And then waking up in recovery, hubby was there, and a really sweet male nurse.
I am 6 weeks out and I feel great! Lots more energy, and feeling better about myself.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Hi Adrianna! I know EXACTLY how you feel and thing is most surgeons and anesthesiologists (spelling) do too. They will give you something to calm you right before they put you under. I just had my surgery done this past Monday and I was SOOOOO afraid of being put to sleep right up until about the Saturday prior. I prayed heavily to God and He answered my prayer and gave me a sense of peace and calmness. Pray to God for peace, listen to what others have posted on here (the positive ones) and you will be fine. I am so grateful that I came to this site! A lot of things that I am going through right now I expected because of the other posters here! But trust me, you will be fine!
