If you really want to be in control of what you do and don't eat - I would recommend doing some more research on all 4 of the WLS options:
Lap Band
VSG
RNY
DS.
I know what I would choose, but if you aren't willing to do a lot of research, advocate for yourself, and supplement for life then DS isn't for you. It isn't for everyone. But if you want restriction only, look to the VSG (you also have to supplement for life wiht that).

I am going on 6 years with my band, and over the years I've been able to eat exactly what I want, of course teeny portions of what I want. When I was in the "losing mode" I stuck closely to a diet of mainly soft proteins, like tuna, egg salad, yogurt, soft fish, and green veggies, but once I reached MY GOAL weight, I eat what I want, now at times there are certain foods that my band may be finicky with and that is rice, apples, and thick bread, those are things I really need to be careful with otherwise if I eat them too quickly I will slime and PB.
Other than that I eat junk all the time if that is what you are asking...I have my treats of ice cream, cake and other things in moderation and I can eat MORE junk than real food...LOL, my band LOVES ICE CREAM ...it goes down very smooth...
One thing that I WILL NOT drink frequently is carbonated sodas...my husband bought a lot of diet root beer lately and I drank one...and I swear I felt my band get looser...so I avoid carbonation at all cost if I can help it...there are studies to indicate drinking frequent carbonated drinks can stretch the pouch and cause band slippage...and I believe it.
My life is TOTALLY NORMAL...I eat the SAME FOODS I ate BEFORE SURGERY as long as I chew well, I don't get sick, in fact my FOOD taste better after my lap band than before since it dumps down slowly and I really enjoy my food much better, I am not too tight so I don't have painful eating, I am at my sweet spot I can only eat about 1-2 cups of solid food per meal even at 6 years post op....I love my band and life...good luck.

"Keep in mind that the band is very much a crap shoot! Works for some. For most............it does NOT work long term! For many it doesn't even work short term."
I have tried to refrain from posting on band bashing posts but COME ON now this is a very onesided , untrue post ! The band supposedly is not working for YOU.That does not mean it does not work for MOST Jeez. Actually you can find info on the web that says that the band or any of the WLS 's out there do or do not work.SO look on here and other boards the number of ppl it works for is WAY higher than those that it does not. There are some it does not work out for BUT there are those on every WLS board that find the surgery they choose has not worked out for them. It is a personal choice and should be based on personal issues and situations by you and your Dr. EVERY WLS is a crap shoot really as we all have different needs and bodies and will all react differently post surgery and many times there are unpredictable issues that arise.
**gets off soapbox**
The band DOES NOT work for everyone ! If mine quit tomorrow It would suck , I would be sad and maybe even a little bitter but I would not continually make it my life's mission to come on here and band bash and throw out facts that are not accurate trying to scare others off from potential success because it did not work for me....I would spend my time searching for why it did not work for me or fixing my issue. It is fine to not feel the band is a good option but to dogmatically try to steer ppl away from it and continually ba**** is taking up SO much energy that could be better spent trying to fix your own issues.Whether that is figuring out WHY your band is not working or getting a revision.
**ok really getting off soapbox now**

She says it didn't work, but this is off her profile...it is public, so she should not object.

Hello! I got my band 5 mo. ago. I have lost 63lbs so far and am very happy with my band. My only problem was having severe heartburn when I ate steak one time. I think I ate to big a piece or I ate too fast. I don't eat soft bread, dry foods,or dry meats. Have had 3 fills and feel I am at the right level of fill now-6cc in a 11 cc band. I would do it again in a minute. My MD and his staff are very professional and give me really good advice when I call.
