just had my first fill this morning. 3 ccs in a 14 cc band (he attempted 5 ccs but that was way too tight).

drank a cup of water. went down fine, though i did feel some restriction.

ate 6 ounces of yogurt. that too went done fine, but i could feel some restriction.

now, my throat is burning. reflux perhaps? am i too tight? or do i just need to give it some time?

I think its a little early to tell, I'd say give it a week unless you have any huge problems, and see how it feels then!

Do your doctor not require at least 24 hours of liquid after a fill?

You may want to go on liquid for at least 24 hours to give it a rest since sometimes a fill irritate the opening of the band especially since you said that your dr attempted 5 cc but had to go back to 3 cc.  If after the 24 hours and going back to solid, if it not better, I would not wait.

I am liquids only for 24 hours after my fill ..

Protein shake
Brothy soup or tomato soup

My doctor doesn't say mushies for the next day but I do anyways because I'm very sensitive to fill and I get swollen ..

so the next day I eat denser soups then back to food on day 3 ..remember to take the time to eat and chew chew chew...

Too early to tell!

And don't worry if your doc OKed yoghourt! Mine gives me yog immediately after my fill! It is his way of testing tightness. And I am fine to carry on with it when I get home.

If your throat is burning that is your esophagus yelling HELP ME!!! You should never have any reflux or burning in your throat. That is your body telling you something is not right. You are too tight . Take it from me your band is nothing to play with because if you stay too tight you can dilate your pouch and esophagus and then its GAME OVER! or worst your band slips

I would go back to the Doctor and get some out otherwise it could lead to your band slipping in the future.

Remember when you have blind fills; the true test is the night of or the next day since so much swelling sets in after the band is tightens drinking water in the office and softs such as yogurt are not good judges.

A 3 cc fill done without flouro is very dangerous for this reason

Best of Luck,

Lucky duck...I got my fist fill today too...but only clear liquids for the rest of the day and "full" liquids tomorrow...poo.

My doc started at 3cc too but when I drank the water it felt like it was stuck in my throat so he pulled out 1/2 (still barfy feeling) so then another 1/2.

Hope the heartburn subsides!

thanks everyone for the feedback.

the fill was done under x-ray with a barium swallow, since it was my first and my port is VERY deep set. i could see it move down the band (or not move) on the screen.

my doctor didn't advise against full liquids, so i just ate what was there at the time (yogurt).

don't feel the burning sensation or reflux anymore, but do feel some restriction. if the reflux or coughing should appear, i'll make sure to call the doctor right away. thanks again!
