Yes, thanks Kate - that was an eye-opener. I hadn't done much research into RNY or other types of WLS before I decided on the lapband, so didn't realize the malabsorptive procedures could lead to things like osteoporosis, etc. But that makes sense. And not being able to absorb chemo should one need it - yikes, never thought of that.
I certainly hope my health never requires removal of my band, but of course if it was life or death the band would come out. 14 months out I feel I have changed my lifestyle and eating habits to the point where I would be able to maintain some semblance of a normal-weight life, but I really would not want to have to find out the hard way.
