OT: Hopefully solved my skin problem, now to remove scarring

I had a really big problem with my skin after I got to Korea. I broke out around the chin area like crazy. I thought it was my PCOS acting up. I went to several doctors who prescribed me antibiotics that did nothing. So I gave up. New zits came in every day. It was a cruel irony. Everyone always told me I had such a beautiful face..."If only I would lose weight." Now I've lost the weight... "If only I had a beautiful face." Damn it.

I went to Latvia (my home country) for vacation and visited a few family doctors there. The minute they saw my face, they said to check for Demodex... apparently a creepy little multi-legged mite that "white-skinned people can be affected by in Asia" as the doctor explained.

After ripping out about 10 of my eyelashes (ouch!) and scraping my skin, one of the ugly sperm-looking mites was found. Eww.

The good news? One month and a bunch of prescription meds, creams and scrubs later... my skin is A LOT better!! I am hoping that two or three months more of this 'skin regimen' will kill all the mites.

Now I'm left with scars on my face from my old acne... it's not horrible, but I need it to go away. I think with time they will... but I wonder... does anyone have any tips for how to push this process along? I've been exfoliating and moisturizing.

Try plain lemond juice, it is a natural skin lightner. I have used it on my acne scars and it is doing wonders.

Thanks! I will definitely try that! Should I use it only on the scars or all over? In Korea whitening cream is really popular... but I've been careful about buying anything that includes it.

Use the it all over your face, it will not inter act with other things that you maybe using. FYI, for an exfollient you can put some brown sugar on a cotton pad and then put the lemon juice on the brown sugar and rub all over your face. Rinse your face when done, it is alittle messy so lean over your sink when applying. This is very affective.

Never heard of the brown sugar thing. Very cost effective alternative to buying exfoliants! :-)

Elena,

Eeeyew! Demodex is the mite that causes mange in dogs. I have plenty of experience with that. Four of our dogs were looking pretty bad for a while there until the meds kicked in. I don't know what you can do to speed your own healing along, but I do want to tell you that the mite infestation left absolutely no permanent scars on the dogs. Their skin is smooth, the fur all grew back, and they are all looking splendid. Of course, not as splendid as you! I just want to offer you the hope that your skin will fully recover and you will be a perfectly beautiful girl again!

Damn, Jean. I was hoping that no one would mention that to poor Elena!

Yeah I heard that... but I guess it affects people over here. Glad to hear that it'll pass!

If you have significant scarring from acne, a chemical peel will smooth things out quite a bit....

Glad you found out what was causing your problem!
