How long did you take off work after surgery?  I was thinking 2, maybe 3 weeks?

I took 2 weeks off, but I know there are people who had the surgery on a Friday and went back to work that Monday.  I think it depends on your job.

I had surgery on Wednesday and went back to work on Monday. Depends on what you for work. I am at a desk all day.

I'm the only RN on the floor for the 7P shift, we have up to 16 patients.  At 2330, I only have one tech.  We are a skilled floor with mostly Ortho patients that have already had 3 days of Acute care.  I used to work Ortho and a total knee or hip would stay until they were ready to go home, now insurance wants them out within 3-4 days, so they come to our floor.  We have to be able to lift #50 pounds, so I had the entire 6 weeks off with short term disability.  12 & 1/2 hours was tough when I went back to work.

Sooooooooooo, it depends on your floor and the requirements of your floor.

I took 3 weeks off because I couldn't work if I had any lifting restrictions. If my surgeon does a hiatal hernia repair it is no heavy lifting for 6 weeks. Good luck. Mona

I am a floor nurse on the bariatric unit and my surgeons and I felt that I should take the full 6 weeks off due to all the lifting and pulling we do on the unit.

take care!

all the weight has been lost post-op..I LOVE MY BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

highest weight: 333 pounds (I know I gained after my last "weigh in" in the doctors office so probably it's more like 340 pounds)
current weight: 151 pounds (7/12/11)
I've been at goal (165 pounds) for 6 months now and now on maintence.  I tend to go up and down depending on time of the month and such!

It took me 2 weeks to feel half-way human again.  If I was doing floor nursing, I wouldn't have been able to go back to work that soon.

Outpatient clinic type work, I probably could've.  Depends on the strenuousness of your job.

I work on a surgical Step Down Unit.  Most of our patients move themselves.  There are only 2 other nurses usually with me.  I work mostly nights, no a lot of movement.  I have really supportive coworkers also.  I am thinking 2 maybe 3 weeks.   My youngest just turned 1 and I do not have a lot of time to take off.  Thanks for the input!

I work in the NICU and went back after 2 weeks.  My patients are definitely small enough, but the equipment/rocking chairs are heavy.  I have nice coworkers who have helped me out.  The first week back was the toughest.  After my stretch of 3 nights I felt like I had been hit by a truck.  This week has not been so bad.  Good luck!
