WOW Moments!
I've had a few WOW moments since having surgery December 2008. The first was getting below 300 lbs after 7+ years of being over 300 lbs. I cried when I got on the scales and weighed 199 lbs, the first time in 14 years. I rejoiced beyond belief when I took my first airplane ride, after losing 160 lbs, and being able to sit in the seat comfortably, not hanging over on to the seat next to me and not needing the seat belt extension! When I reached my personal weight loss goal, I weighed 175 lbs (less than when I was in high school) and was exactly half the woman I was at my heaviest weight. To celebrate, I went skydiving. It was absolutely amazing! Since then (last June), I've lost another 5 lbs and am 10 lbs away from the goal my doctor had set for me. I bought new clothes last week and was thrilled to be in a size 12/14 after so many years of being a size 26/28. I never expected to lose this much weight and couldn't be happier!
My WOW moment: At church this week we are having vacation bible school. A very close friend and her husband were co-teaching a class with me.....On the first night, as we were lining up to go inside, my friend's husband asked where I was. She said, "right over there." My back was to them and he asked again where I was because he didn't see me!!!! =) Made my night when she shared that with me! Almost 70 pounds gone for good!
My WOW moment had just happened to me today. I have this bad habit of weighing myself every day, and I just had surgery this past Monday. Tuesday morning, I weighed 280. Monday, at the hospital, I weight 282. Today, Thursday, I weigh 273!!! I'm on the liquid diet and I'm drinking as much water as I can. This is phenomenal! I am crying happy tears right now! From my consultation to now, 3 days after my surgery, I have gone from 305 to 273!
I have had many wow moments from actually seeing my toes to tying my shoes without holding my breath. One was bitter sweet. I am a nurse of 22 years. I have been in 2xl for about 3 years now. I really love the prints on my uniforms they reflect my personality like most nursing uniforms do. I have been giving them away and I have been wearing my 21 year old Daughters uniforms which mind you they are a Medium. I hated to give away my uniforms but they were falling off me. It took some doing but I have found some uniforms that I now really love. The nurses and patients that I work with for the past 6 years have really noticed a change in both my appearance and attitude. I really think the wow moment is that my self image has skyrocketed for the better.
