Yoga for us big girls?
I dont know anything about yogo but I am assuming you can do it. You are never to heavy to do anything you might go at a slower pace, you might have to modify the exercise to suit your needs but you can always do it , if you have the determination :o)
I thought the same thing about Zumba but there is tons of people in my class at my size or even heavier. People are so wrapped up watching the teacher they dont pay no attention to you anyways :o)

Megan Garcia has a couple of yoga DVDs with moves tailored specifically for plus sized people. I own two of them and I LOVE THEM. It's a great way to get comfortable with the moves, figure out what you are comfortable with and what modifications work for you and even what you are most comfortable wearing before making the jump to join a class. Or, you can just do them at home all the time.

I have the Biggest Loser Weight Loss Yoga DVD & the Jillian Michaels Yoga DVD. I actually find the beginning level on Bob's version to be harder than Jill's! I was suprised! I can't do every move, and can't stretch as far, but each time gets easier. Jill has a beginner and an advanced person to follow. I'm still on the beginner level and on stage 1, but I sweat my heart out each time! Try it, you might really really like it! I do! :D

I weigh 215 and have tried it. There are so many different kinds of yoga it's hard to know what will work and what won't. The class I took did a lot of the exercises on a mat on the floor and it was really hard on my knees. I like Pilates better because it works on toning and strenghtening your core muscles and I have a beginners tape that is done completely on the floor with out stress on my knees. However, I saw recently in the continued ed section of our local community college as Yoga class especially designed for "women of size". I may check that out becuase I know a lot of people that love yoga!
There's no harm in trying! Any movement more that what we used to do is progress!

No, you are not too fat. I started doing Hot Yoga when I was at my highest weight ever: 335. I cannot explain to you how liberating it felt to make it through a 90 minute session my first time going. Sure, I spent about 25 minutes laying on the floor (that's what they tell you to do if you feel like you need a break...the room can be anywhere from 98 to 105 degrees), but I pushed myself and picked back up with the rest of the class when I could.
One of the great things about yoga is that it is very much a personal journey. Now before when I used to hear people say that, I would think that they were full of it. But after experiencing it, I can totally grasp what they meant. It's not about keeping up. It's more about concentration and striving to endure and enhance your ability each time you practice.
I can go through a period where I don't practice for months, but when I go back to that place in my journey, it feels so familiar.

I too started yoga at 330. The instructor asked me if I would be able to get up off the floor myself-insulting-yes-but I showed him when I showed up to his advanced class a couple of years and minus 100+ lbs later. He said "Do you know that this is an advanced class?" I said "I certainly do and it is not my first". You can move slowly and deliberately in yoga and I felt more comfortable with that form of exercise. I t gets easier every day and makes you feel good mentally and physically. Try it!!
