I am sooo hungry

I had my band surgery 6 days ago so I am still on just liquids and yogurt, those sort of things. I know I have a few weeks before I go for my first band adjustment but I guess I was not expecting to be so hungry. I guess I thought once I got the surgery the appetite would be tamed some what and then once I got my adjustment it would be even better. I was not ready for being so hungry. Has anyone else experienced this? Do you have any tips on different things to eat to make this any better? Keep in mind I am still in my two weeks eating phase. I don't get to add in the pureed foods for another week.

You're perfectly normal as far as I'm concerned. I was hungry the day after my surgery. While some people experience immediate appetite suppression because of surgical swelling, not everybody does, and most bandsters need a few fills before their appetite is tamed. Plus, being on liquids does not do much for satiety. You need solid food for that...when the time comes. All I can suggest is that you drink protein shakes (protein is the longest-lasting form of food in terms of energy and satiety) and try chomping on some SF popsicles when you must have something to chew.

I'm 3-1/2 years further along than you are so my day-to-day experience of my band is naturally different from yours (and everybody else's), but I find that ice-cold beverages can help tame hunger.
When I'm on a liquid diet now (after a fill), I like to add Unjury chicken soup flavor protein powder to just about any flavor of soup.

Hang in there, it does get better.

Had my lap band on the 15th so I'm on day 14.  I wasn't so much hungry; it was more that I was SICK to death of broth!  I felt fine otherwise.  I called the doctor's office and they told me to move up to pureed, mashed and scrambled.  It never hurts to ask.  Good luck!

My problem is finding a protein drink that doesn't make me gag.  The liquid stuff is gross and the powders are kind of expensive to buy randomly and are not as high in protein.

during my first few days post op, apple juice diluted 50/50 w. water was a life saver for me.  I also used it over soft pellet ice my hubby bought by the 5 lb bag at a local fast food place.  It was more satisfying than jsut plain water or crystal light.  stay hydrated using whatever means you must at first and of course, get your protein drink in on a consistent basis.  the protein will help with the hunger. I had to journal how much and when I drank it becuase the time slips up on you before you know it and then it's time to drink again.  The final thing that helped me most was trying to stay positive and realize that the liquid phase would be over soon and was necessary for proper healing of my band.  YOu want to come out of this as healthy as possible, so just follow dr. orders, read, go for a walk, take long hot showers, and pamper yourself in ways you usually don't do.  get some new shower gel, candles,  lotion, etc and baby yourself.  you deserve it.  you'll get through this, you can do it.
