OMG I forgot the rules....... Spoke to the doctor and he said clear liquids on Wednesday and nothing after midnight on Thursday. Clear liquids - does that include Isopure?? If not I don't know how I will survive a full day of school and work on water and clear broth! I guess the same way I survived before the last surgery, lol

Aw, you know what we're gonna say: call their office and make sure, regarding Isopure AND the post-op diet. I'm 99% sure that they will tell you "yes" on both counts, but make sure . . .

 Mell,
It's nice to see someone (unfortunately), in a similar situation. This seems to be a rare complication. How was the second surgery - as bad as the first? Hopefully he will only have to replace my band, not the port, so I'm hoping for a speedier recovery. Did you have to re-do the 5 stage post-op diet? Any advice would be helpful!

Hi,
I was the first he had ever seen, I had gone in for a slip fix and I think he did not properly secure it when he was done so it came unclipped with the first fill.
I was able to keep my band he just added a few stitches to the locking area to make sure it was secure (luckily my locking device was still good). The surgery was easy, I was told to do liquids for a few days then mushies for a total of 2 weeks then to take it slow, but hey it worked and I started getting my restriction back.
I have had a lot of complications (port flip, slip, unclip) none of my revision surgeries were as bad as the first. I got right back to normal very quickly....
You should be fine, or at least I was, but by then I had lost 115lbs not sure how far along you are in your weight loss.

I'm not very far at all...Just got my band in December! I kept going for fill after fill, and was not getting ANY restriction. After 6cc's in a 10cc band, the doctor sent me for an x-ray and he is pretty sure (there's no way to know 100%) that the locking mechanism has opened. He gave me a full 10ccs and I was able to get down water, so we know something is going on.

I am requesting an entire new band. I only had the band for 3 months and I don't trust it. I do want to keep the port I have now because there is nothing wrong with it and the port incision was the worst part of the original surgery.

Hopefully I will recover as quickly as you did. I am a full time law student having this surgery on Thursday and the doctor convinced me I would be okay to go back to class on Monday. I'm 23, so age is on my side, and I can only hope he is right!

Thanks for sharing your experience... the surgeon said this is only the second one he has seen and it seems like this particular complication is pretty rare, so not many people have stories to share.

I'll keep ya posted!
Alyssa

I am requesting a new band, but keep the original port. Hopefully the doctor will be able to remove the original band, replace it with a new one, and attach it to the original port that is already there. The port incision was the worst part of the original surgery, and there is nothing wrong with the current port, so the doctor said it can stay in. Hopefully!

Oh Alyssa that is GREAT news!  Glad they are handling that for you so promptly after it took so much time to figure out the issue.  Best of luck and please give us updates.
