New to this site..seeing what info everyone can give me
Hi there, welcome to the board! I had my surgery 10 months ago and have done well. I lose slowly for several reasons...I don't exercise much, I am 61 and disabled (back and knee), and I am insulin resistant (though my bg has been around 100 since surgery). My brother is almost 2 yrs out, has lost 125 lbs (he is 6 ft tall and 200 lb) competes in triathalons almost every weekend during the season, doesn't cook (lives off prepared food, but healthier prepared food) and works out diligently 7 days a week, without fail. We both keep our bands a bit on the loose side, because we want to have to exercise some emotional dicipline and we want to avoid complications. He is 13 years younger than I, and his knees are intact. Mine need replaced, due to an active life...skateboarding as a teen, skiing, softball (catcher) and 26 years working in food service on hard floors. We lost another brother to obesity, alcoholism and a predatory wife, and neither of us wants to be that physically vulnerable.
The band was a good choice for us (he has the lap-band and I have the Realize band), but explore all your options and read the profiles of a lot of people who have had good and bad experiences with all the surgeries. This is an elective surgery and you need to go in with your eyes wide open and fully informed and with a clear understanding of how your WLS choice will work with you and for you and what the risks are.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions!
