I wanted to know more info on the liquid diet.  Is this just strictly like juices water, etc or can it be slim fast?  I was told that this is for 2 weeks before your surgery.

It really depends on your doctor and what he wants. Some people its all liquids nothing else and like my liquid diet it was two protein shakes one for breakfast , one for lunch and then for dinner 1/2 cup of protein and 1/2 cup of veggies and I would add a small salad which I thought I was cheating but the nurse after the fact told me I was okay doing that lol.

Every doc is different on their pre surgery diet some people never had to do it.

oh forgot to add it was all you can eat SF jello and Popsicles .  No juices, no milk  those have liquid calories or I wasn't allowed to have them.

Nothing with caffeine so if you drink anything with caffeine none they dont want you to have that stuff till about 6 weeks post op.

you are very welcome. I'm sure your doc will tell you what he wants hopefully its not a all liquid diet .

I will tell you its hard, and you will get emotional, hungry and very tired.  I had to do this for 14 days and the first four days I thought I was going to die and I lived as you can see lmao.  But you do such a drastic drop in calories its like you go into shock.  There was one point I cried because I still had to feed my 16 yr old son and husband .  They tried to go out and eat so it wasn't hard on me , but that made me even madder that he would do that to me and not being a good wife and cook lol. See alot of emotions now I'm begging him to go out and eat so I dont have to cook

Just dont give up .  Now I did do a little cheat. I just could not go to bed with my stomach growling I tried it didn't work and I would drink a small glass of milk before bed time.

It helped fill my tummy up and I could at least sleep other then that I was good as gold :o)

By the time you do this and your six weeks post op of sf jello you will be so sick of that stuff lol and sf pudding.  I cant stand to eat the stuff now yuck lol.

Sounds like a lot but I know that it is worth it.  I am excited hopefully I will get the approval in July. I think that I will be so frusterated with that liquid diet, like you I have a family to make meals for, 3 daughters and a man so I am not looking forward to that. I had posted another post about the fills are you able to explain that to me a little if you don't mind?

I'm on the 2nd day of my "liquid" diet.  I am allowed a lot of things that other people have not.  Oatmeal, soft/ground chicken and white fish, soups pudding, popsicles, jello, non fat milk, baby food are all ok as long as it's no more than 800 calories.
I feel terrible.  My hands are shaking, I'm tired, and a bit nauseous.  I have 8 more days of this before the surgery, and I know it will be a struggle.  I did lose 2 lbs, though!

GREAT! I am still in the process, the end of my supervised diet is in July and then I guess I will be waiting for the approval from my insurance company.  I am just starting to get a little worried and anxious I am ready to be a thinner person. I know that it will be a long hard journey but it will be worth it.  I still have a lot of concerns but bu my reading everyone's posts I am sure that they will get answered.

We can't help much on this as all our pre-op diets are very different. I had no pre-op diet at all, some just have a low cal, some a low carb, some 2 shakes and a meal, some just shakes, some........! Get the idea?

So it is just what yoru own doc says!

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

A good surgeon and his/her team should lay out the rules for your liquid diet. For most people the diet ranges from one to two weeks. Mine was 10 days. Before your surgery, many sure to get specific rules from your doctor about what you can and can't drink.

The liquid diet can be tough to maintain but for me the diet was an eye-opening experience. I really saw how addicted to food I was. Good luck to you! :-)

2019: 11 years out and maintaining a loss of 150lbs.
