i actually have the realize band. I have been over at that forum and not getting a whole lot of help. is there much difference with the two? the only reason i went with the realize band was because of the website (which is lame). I am looking for people who are going through and that doesn't do much. I was banded on March 4th. If i had questions, can i ask them here?
Thanks Tina

We get both Lapbanders and Realize on here. The differences between the two bands are small and we live our lives the same way.

So ask away!!

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

I have had both. Original lap band in 04, Realize in 09. Very minimal difference between the two. I can not imagine how this message board would not be relevant to you. Start posting :o)

What do you want to know???  The Realize Forum is verrrrry slow.  Most of us choose to hang out here....so ask away

Thanks so much for helping. On the other forum, there are only 4 or 5 ppl. And i just want advice from as many ppl that i can get it from. It's hard because i was just banded on March 4th, i have lost 15 pnds but I gained some back. the dietitian put me on eating regular (as regular as i can get right now) I am eating small amounts of stuff. But i feel like i have no restrictions, i haven't had any problems with things. I am still testing myself (that is what they said i need to do, so i know what i can or can't eat) but i haven't got a fill yet and i feel that will change come April 18th (1st fill). Did this happen to other people? I know i am probably gaining the 3 to 4 pnds because i am eating regular food but i am watching the calorie intake and maybe eating 1000 calories a day. What do you guys think?
Thanks for helping..

Hello and welcome!  I am also getting banded by Dr. Rohrscheib on 4/19.  What has your experience been so far?

He is such a nice but quiet Dr. The staff is great. I have had no issues with them at all. The surgery went by so fast, he did it under 45 mins. I went in at 7:30 was prepped, then i remember waking up in the recovery room. It was 9am. I went to my room where my family was waiting and i was able to leave at 10:30am. I am waiting to get my first fill on April 18th, so i now things will change for me then but for right now, I am jus****ching what i eat. Good luck and let me know.

It is hard until we get restricition. Here is an explanation for a weight stall or even gain early on.

The following explanation is courtesy of Diana Cox.

Our bodies use glycogen for short term energy storage. Glycogen is not very soluble, but it is stored in our muscles for quick energy -- one pound of glycogen requires 4 lbs of water to keep it soluble, and the average glycogen storage capacity is about 2 lbs. So, when you are not getting in enough food, your body turns first to stored glycogen, which is easy to break down for energy. And when you use up 2 lbs of glycogen, you also lose 8 lbs of water that was used to store it -- voila -- the "easy" 10 lbs that most people lose in the first week of a diet.

As you stay in caloric deficit, however, your body starts to realize that this is not a short term problem. You start mobilizing fat from your adipose tissue and burning fat for energy. But your body also realizes that fat can't be used for short bursts of energy -- like, to outrun a sabertooth tiger. So, it starts converting some of the fat into glycogen, and rebuilding the glycogen stores. And as it puts back the 2 lbs of glycogen into the muscle, 8 lbs of water has to be stored with it to keep it soluble. So, even though you might still be LOSING energy content to your body, your weight will not go down or you might even GAIN for a while as you retain water to dissolve the glycogen that is being reformed and stored
