May need band revision to sleeve
I was banded in '07 and have been having problems. I am heading to Mexico to see Dr. Aceves on Apr. 9 to have a flouroscope and find out what is going on. I would love for him to eventally do my revision, but it is so expensive. I know its not smart to pick a surgeon based on price, but some of the toher Mexican surgeons charge ALOT less. So, my question is this...is there another really competent surgeon who charges less for VSG in Mexico? Someone you have used and really trust? My hope is that I can get my band unfilled a bit, wait a couple years and then get the revision. Buying my time till I can afford it, but we'll see what they see on the 9th.
By the way, anyone else going to Mexicalli on the 9th?
Thanks!

I completely feel for you! I'm looking into a sleeve revision, possibly in Mexico, too. I have heard nothing but good things about Dr. Ungson. I don't know his prices, though.
Hope all goes well for you, whatever you end up doing.
What problems are you having currently?

I havent heard of him, I will check him out, thanks! Did you have yoour original surgery in Mexico or no? My problems are not ALOT worse than they have always been. Port pain, inconsistencies in eating such as one day I can eat nothing, the next everything. Can eat no meat or chicken only soft fish or tofu. I have acid reflux and heartburn constantly. Basically, I am sick of it! Dr. Aceves is $10,000 so I am looking for something less if possible.
I didn't have my surgery in Mexico, no. I had good insurance when I had surgery back in 2002, but now my insurance doesn't cover WLS. (I've been thinking I had surgery in 2003 for YEARS now... I just was going over my info last week and found out that I had it in 2002! Duh!)
I know what you mean with the inconsistencies with the band. Except, mine was consistent in that I could never eat solid foods. But, it was inconsistent in that some days I couldn't even swallow water or my own saliva... with no saline in my band. It's a hard way to live, for sure.
I have a book sitting on my counter right this minute... The Gastric Sleeve by Dr. Guillermo Alverez. He might be another one to check out. I don't know much about him, personally, so I can't say one way or the other if he's good or not. I am going to read his book, anyway!

Dr Aceves has done so many revisions. Through all my research he and a Dr in San Francisco were the only 2 I would have gone to. It wasn't about price it was about qualifications to me anyway. My revision was done last month and I can't say enough good about Dr Aceves, Dr Campos and the entire team. I was banded about a week before you in 07.
Looking forward to finally not being obsessed about food. Was a food addict before my lap band and it ended up making me even worse. So far with the sleeve it is everything I was told the band would be without the followup.
Good Luck!
