Not drinking with meals?
We are all different but if I needed to use drinks to push food down, I would think i was too tight or eating carelessly. Or eating foods which are too dry.
Drinking with meals can do one of two things. It can make the food more sloppy and so it goes down faster and so we don't feel full and can eat more or it can land on top of a full pouch and come straight back up!
I do drink with special meals (I am jsut about to go out for a meal in a very high quality restaurant and I will sip wine throughout the meal). But I do it very carefully and I know that it means i will eat more!

My answer is yes and no...depending on the situation. If I am at home and eating my regular meal, I don't drink at all while eating and for 30 min after (at least 30 min).
If I am at a social function and eating appetizers or my meal, I do drink a glass of wine with the food occasionally. I choose my appetizers carefully and don't drink anything if I feel like I might get stuck. At a restaurant, I order a glass of wine and when the food comes, I give what is left in the glass to my DH. I separate out my allowed portion and then cut my meat into tiny bites while chewing and carrying on the conversation and always swallow, do a mental check that it is going well and then take another bite. If there are difficult veggies, I cut them into the smallest pieces possible or offer them to someone else at the table.
I think this falls into what one fellow bandster calls the 80/20 rule...follow the rules stringently 80% of the time and allow yourself a break 20% of the time...but still being cautious and mindful while eating. The whole idea of having a band is to be able to eat a wide variety of foods, isn't it??

hey Basimah, I'm having difficulty adjusting to the no drinking while eating too. At 5 weeks post op I had been doing both but was hungry alot. Now I've pretty much stopped the 2 together and feel alot better. I was also getting a stitch in my side which has gone. It is difficult but I guess it's all part of the dynamic of the whole band thing. I also think I was eating bites that were too big and eating too fast. Good luck!!
