Weight Stuck!

I had my Lap Band done on Feb. 10, 2011 and I have lost 48 lbs. (which I'm so happy about) BUT I have been stuck on 248-250 for almost 2 weeks now.  I haven't been released from the dr. just yet due to one of my incisions not healing correctly...so I walk about 40 min. a day 6 days a week.  I haven't had my 1st fill yet (I go on March 30) but I'm eating my 1/4 to 1/2 cup meals and a piece of string cheese is my snack....lots of water and my 2 protein shakes a day.  I'm so frustrated!  How long do these plateaus usually last and any helpful hints would be great!

First, celebrate those 48lbs! Your body is still in a healing process and will let go of the weight when it is ready. You are being consistent with your walking which is great.  Does your surgeon require you to be drinking those two shakes a day? Are you doing it to get in more protein? Maybe cut down to one shake a day and stick with the 1/2 cup of food. When you see your surgeon next week, be sure to discuss the frustration with him.

1/4 to a 1/2 cup of food per meal that isnt very much imo .  Especially when you start to exercise that dont seem like alot of calories to me.

I eat three cups per day and a snack and I only average around 1000 calories a day .

Gosh my doc if you cant eat a whole cup of food per meal he wont even think about giving a fill or he will take some out he is strict about that because getting enough calories for your body and your nutritional needs.

48 pounds in just a little two months that is great.  Im going through a platuae right now and I have been stuck for almost a month now so I know how it feels.

All I can do is follow my eating habits and my exercise and eventually it will come off sometime sooner or later .  I stressed big time about it last week and even made a post about it on here but it is what it is and all I can do is keep following the rules .

I would if it was me check your calories like I said just a 1/2 cup of food per meal or even a 1/4 cup of food like you are eating that dont seem like enough when you are exercising .  I think that is my problem right now and I eat more then you do lol.

And you need to cut down them protein shakes and start using food as your protein .  with you being a month out now almost two months you should be getting your protein from foods not them shakes . Use them shakes as a a filler if you dont get enough protein in from the day from food or if you are to tight in the mornings.  My doc really frowns on protein shakes after you are past your six weeks post op unless like I stated above or after you get a fill.

Are you serious????

At a quick calculation, you have lost 48lbs in about 6 weeks - that is a crazy amount! We might expect to lose about 12lbs in 6 weeks. Even RnY and DSers would be more than happy with that rate of loss - for a bandster it is an incredible amount.  We should expect to lose on average 1-2lbs a week.

Two weeks isn't a plateau - it's just a brief pause for things to catch up! It would not be at all surprising if you now lose nothing for a month or more!

Don't count by days or weeks. Count by months. If you lose nothing for the next 6 weeks, you will still have lost more than most people do in12 weeks! Loss is not going to be steady.  A few people do manage a consistent 1-2lbs a week, for most it is in jerks! 4bs one week, 1lb the next. nothing the next, 2lbs the next and so on.

Thanks for the tips everyone!!!  I actually should have stated my weight loss better....I have lost a total of 48 lbs since my mandatory insurance 6 month following..... I have lost 21 lbs since 2-10-11 (which I am soooooo happy).  When I have lost weight in the past, I have plateaued for a few weeks here and there and I guess my biggest question is, are plateaus longer with weight loss surgery?

My surgeon wants me to keep the 2 protein shakes a day until I see him on the 30Th.  I was feeling really blah and tired for a long time and I know I wasn't eating enough to get the recommended protein in but you are all right....I can eat enough now to get my protein in with my food.  He states no more than 1/2 cup food for each meal as you are losing.

hey there you are still doing really good though :o)

I have lost 43 pounds since my surgery because I was self pay I didn't have to do all these diets that most of you all had to do so mine has been surgery and because I lost so fast I'm now at a major stand still .

I have been losing the same 1-2 pounds now since Feb 28th *sigh* It's very frustrating let me tell you . I have cried, I have yelled at my  hubby so many times taking my frustrations out on him .

Its hard I work really hard on exercise to 5 days a week and when you stall you just want to quit and eat like you did before.

All I can say is just keep doing what you are doing and it will come off eventually .

I was so hoping a fill was my answer but I can go 3-6 hrs at time without being hungry so I know a fill is not the answer to my problems. I go see my doc and NUT Monday I printed out all my sheets and see if they can find something I'm overlooking that I need to work on .

But its going to happen and this wont be the last time you stall out either you might stall every 10 pounds or 20 pounds like some  do on here .

How much protein do you get from your food if you can only eat a 1/2 cup of food ? I'm just really curious not counting your protein shakes ?   with my three cups per day I average around 70-100 per day .

Ah - that makes more sense!! But 21lbs in 6 weeks is still way above average!  Well done!

If your surgeon says 1/2 cup then 1/2 a cup it must be! Many of us do eat more that that but that is something we find out individually as time goes by and we learn to live with our own bands in our own bodies.

Plateaux can be as long as months! But if we eat fewer cals than we burn, then eventually, we must lose! I am afraid we all have to cultivate patience!

Bes wishes.

My dr. says at least 60 grams of protein a day.  Everything I eat has protein.  I try to eat cottage cheese for breakfast, scrambled egg for lunch and then usually chicken or whatever meat I make for my family for dinner.  I'm not sure of the actually #'s but with my 2 shakes I have been way over 60 per day.
