Kate,

Amen to that!

P.S. I LOVE your new avatar. You look a bit like a blonde Audrey Hepburn!

Ah! Well, Jean, in that case, I may change it! Not that I don't  think A Hep is gorgeous but just that I look nothing whatsoever like her!! So this avatar may not be a true reflection of me!! I asked DH and DS and they said it looks like i look sometimes!!

I need Bette or Deb or someone who has met me to comment!!

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Kate - thank you for putting it this way!

To me this is the best thing about the band -- I was always so hungry before and could never go more than a couple of hours without feeling hungery, even though I ate a lot. Sometimes I forget how wonderful it is to not be hungry all the time -- I appreciate the reminder!

Hi Kate!! This was something that I really needed to read. I have not had my surgery yet, just got approved for it. But I truly know now that it is just a personal trainer in my body 24/7.   So I have to implant that into my brain so I can use this trainer the best I can. I want to give CONGRATS to all that have posted on here. I have read your WL from the surgery and it is AWESOME!!!! Keep up the GOOD WORK with the TRAINER...
The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time...

Kate great post

I always say a band is not a magic wand and POOF my weight is gone.  Everyone thinks it's something that will make me lose weight with little or no effort on my behalf.  When someone says something like that I just tell them to go back and do their research because I refuse to argue/ talk to someone that doesn't have any facts, let alone enough knowledge that I would even respect their opinion.

What the band does for me is it allows me to eat 4-6 ozs and feel satisfied...not full.  I don't eat till I'm full.  At home and work I measure my food (I actually have a set of measuring cups/ spoons I keep at work).  One of the changes I made in my life was to start measuring my food.  I did a little experiment... I spooned out what I thought was a 1/2 of a cup of cottage cheese...and then I measured what I spooned out.  What I thought was a half of a cup was actually almost a cup.  Try it yourself.  You will be surprised with "eye balling" your servings you almost always eat more than you should.

Oh how I wish this could be posted in bold print on all of billboards out there. I'm so bothered by the misperception that getting WLS is taking the easy way out but even more bothered by being categorized with the other procedures. Someone at my work for example just had gastric bypass for which another coworker said "she just had done what you did". Argh! I hate being equated with that because I worked and continue to work so hard for every single lb I lose or maintain. I dot have malabsorption to help and l resent being compared knowing full well that person will get to goal faster making me look like that lazy oaf who "had the same thing done". Thanks for the post

You mean the band didn't cause my weight loss? hahaha

Great post Kate!

One of my co-workers ( another RN ) said "you can't gain weight with the band, can you?"  I told her I could snack all day long and easily gain weight.  I could eat ice cream etc and gain.  I could quit exercising and gain. etc etc   So even health care workers don't really understand.

I have never felt "full" with my band.  Before surgery I thought  I would eat a tiny portion and feel stuffed, but no, not even "full".  Just satisfied and that's GREAT!

Again, I love your picture Kate!
