Hi. I haven't got my surgery date yet, but I have started the protein part. I wanted to get used to drinking more liquid then food for the pre-op. I like Atkin Advantage Shakes (160 cal, 15 gms protein, 1 gm sugar) and Slim Fast Low Carb (190 cal, 20 gms protein, 1 gm sugar). I have not tried any mix yet. I keep hearing they dnt taste good. Hope this will help you a lil. Good Luck with your liquid diet and surgery.
The best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time...

Good Luck  the first few days of this diet will be pretty rough till you get use to it. You will be hungry, you will be moody and you will be tired.  I slept alot that week . I just didnt have energy to do anything .

I really enjoyed the Muscle Milk light chocolate one .  I tried so many others and they made me gag and this one is the only one I could get down without gagging lol.

I'm 22 days post op and just started soft/mushy stage.  I foung the brand UNJURY protein shake in Chocolate Classic to be my favorite. It's a medical grade powder and  It was more smooth than others and I stirred it into skim milk rather than blending.  20 g protein not including the milk. you can go to the website unjury.com and order packets to try before ordering the big canister.  delivers in a few days.  Carnation Instant Breakfast mix, low sugar is 15 g protein and has a good flavor too.  I preferred the medical grade though becuase I was trying to get all the protein I could.  Try hard to meet your protein/fluid goals asap becuase it will help you heal faster and you will feel alot better.  As far as fluids, I liked V8 light fusion in Pomegranite/Blueberry and alos Strawberry Banana.  you can mix it 50/50 water and it's a great flavot when you tire of Crystal lights and such.   I also used alot of thin soups, first straining it though a fine wire mesh strainer.  Campbells Broccoli and Cheese soup diluted w. one can of skim milk.  after a few days, you may want to try the soups.  I added a little unflavored Unjury protein powder to my soups.    It's a little hard to find, but Tropicana Light Orangeade (5 cals) comes in individual plastic botles..is a good treat when need a change up.  All the shakes made my mouth feel "sticky". so I brushed my teeth alot.  It really helped me feel better and my fluids tasted better.   Good luck to you.

The premix ones were always the easiest for me.  EAS Carb Advantage and Pure Protein.  EAS you can get at walmart or Target in a 4 pack several flavors.  Pure Protein you can buy at target.  They also have muscle milk light but I don't like that one however many others do. All are about 17-20 grams of protein and 1-3 carbs.  While I like some atkins shakes, the calorie and fat content I think can be too high if you are counting.  I did not use atkins on my pre-surgery diet because of the fat content for one and  for the calories, I could have 2 EAS shakes and was more than doubling my protein. EAS shakes are thinner and are only 100-110 calories with 17 grams of protein.

I do not like unjury at all.  I made the mistake of buying canister after canister because this is what my Dr. recommended but I just do not like it - for me it has an awful after taste.  Do yourself a favor and don't waste money on pricey powders if you haven't had a had sample.   The only unjury I can tolerate is the chicken soup but it has to be made luke warm or it will curdle.  To me it tastes like lipton cup-o-soup minus the noodles but you get all the benefits of the protein and its a nice change for a salt flavor when all you constantly drinking ,chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.

Now hands down my favorite protein is Chocolate Peanut Butter Body Fortress and it's sold by Walmart believe it or not. 1 scoop is 26 grams of protein, 130 calores, 2 sugars, 3 carbs.  It's better mixed with milk but of course that will up your carbs/sugar so if you can blend with water and ice that is better.

Also instead of using regular milk or water to blend other good low carb options are Carb Countdown Hood Milk if you can find it and I've recently found another alternative for milk - Unsweetened Almond Breeze.  1 cup = 40 calories, 3 gm fat,  1 protein, 1 net carb, no sugar,

So the most simple shake for me is Body Fortress Choc PB shaken or blended with 1 cup of unsweeted Almond Breeze for a total of 170 calories, 27 grams of protein and 4 carbs.

If you are on a strict pre-op super low carb intake (I was on 30 grams a day and between 600-800 calories only)  then this option you would probably only be able to have 1-2 of these shakes per day and then other types that had >2carbs.  During my pre-op I had about 5-6 shakes a day, cyrstal ligh****er, low sodium chicken broth, and sugar free popcicles.

Hope this helps.

I am actually have surgery Wednesday, and I can tell you that these past 2 wks have been very hard.  I have a family, so cooking for them while not eating anything was a real chore.  My husband was so nice and brought shamrock shakes home the other night and my work had a huge luncheon on Thursday...I lived through it, took 1 yes 1 sip of Shamrock Shake and said no thank you and didn't touch a thing at my luncheon....I sit right outside the door of the kitchen...It was hard...To be honest with you, I love the Atikins protein shakes and can see myself staying very much close to Atikins after my surgery and when I'm allowed eating of course.  I am to have 3 protein shakes a day w/ 2 snacks.  Of course cutting down the caffiene.  the first day was HORRIBLE.  I felt like a bu**** me.  I was exhausted and had a headache from HELL, but the second day was a tiny tiny tiny bit better, but by the 3rd day, I honestly felt better then I have in a long time.  Still have headaches from the caffiene, but you know what I am craving???  A hamburger!! no bun, just a big hamburger w/ ketchup and salt!!  weird I know!!  I wish you the best of luck, just remember YOU are worth it.  As hard as this is, YOU are worth it......

I just had surgery on March 15. Before that I used the Atkins advantage. I enjoyed the dark chocolate flavor. When I looked at vegetables I went for the ones with least calories. Just note that the first 3-5 days are horrible. You can do it! After that it becomes easier. I too had to endure making dinner for my children and eat something totally else. It was harder some days than others. My birthday was March 14th and I celebrated it with a nice dark chocolate shake. It helped with missing cake....lol..Good luck!!
